geekiegeek: Just brought the real deal in the form of a 27" Dell Ultrasharp (same LG panel as the iMac). 1260x1440 wow! This thing is fantastic. If you go for anything above 24" I would definitely recommend the higher resolution - I brought a 1080p 27" 4 weeks ago and sold it to buy this one.

Very nice.

Personally, I'm waiting until monitors with higher pixel density are available.

Pixel density doesn't seem to have changed much over the last few years.

A 24" retina monitor would be just right for me.

Just a quick update - apparently there has been a surge of demand for these displays (there was a review on Anandtech amongst others - http://www.anandtech.com/show/5885/the-achieva-shimian-qh270-a-350-27inch-wqhd-sips-display) so there has been a delay in shipping my unit. It's a public holiday in South Korea tomorrow, so according to the ebay drop-shipper my unit should ship on Thursday.

My monitor arrived into the country last night, cleared customs and delivery was attempted this morning - unforunately away on business for the week, so will have to patiently wait until I get home!

After waiting around for a non-existent courier (Courierpost seem completely incapable of following simple directions - I asked them to hold delivery for a week while I was away, they decided to try delivering anyway so when I called to find out where it was they said "we already tried delivering it three times so you have to pick it up"), I collected my monitor this morning.

Fairly well padded

Superficial damage to the box. This was the side of the box directly in front of the panel...

However, no issues. They supplied the "Super" version of the PCBank monitor, which has a fairly broad base stand that only tilts up and down. Not as bad as I had anticipated - it's actually pretty sturdy, and fortunately my desk configuration puts it at a good viewing height anyway. No plug adapter provided, but I had one in my desk drawer.

Hard to photograph with my phone camera (it's pretty bright). My old monitor (a Dell 2007FPW) is to the right - I haven't managed to make it make friends with my HD7850 via a passive HDMI to DVI cable, so I've ordered an active mini Displayport to DVI adapter (fingers crossed).

No dead or bright pixels, although there is a tiny speck of dust in one corner. Colour seems pretty uniform. There is a little bit of backlight bleeding at the bottom on either side of the logo, but to be honest it's pretty good and not significantly worse than my old monitor (and not really visible in normal usage).

Recommended.

So they shipped one with a different mount to what you ordered did they? I would be wanting to get 2 that matched and had the mounting bracket for my desk mount. Not keen on risking getting something with that aweful hoop or something on the back.

Yes, different desk stand from what I ordered - but the panel itself is the same (so has the same VESA mount on the back). I think all of these different monitors have VESA compatible mounting points on the back, it's just that some stands are more difficult to remove than others (e.g. the Catleap in particular seems a bit fiddly).

I've also worked out that the up arrow decreases brightness, and the down arrow increases brightness (go figure) - backlight bleeding is essentially non-existent at the lowest brightness setting, which is still probably brighter than my old Dell.

Does it PWM to dim the backlight? My cheap dells do so making it unusable on anything but full brightness, which thankfully isnt that bright at all.

Almost certainly, though I haven't found it in the specs anywhere. I can't detect any issues with flicker, though.

I got one too, they are awesome but so basic IE won't work with none native resolution etc. Can't use it as the only display as things like BIOS etc. don't work.

My eyes playing BF3 though. yes it looked good but far out that was trippy~~~~

BIOS works fine for me. It seems it will largely depend on your graphics card - my HD7850 seems to have no trouble upscaling to the panel's native 2560x1440.

Yeah newer cards seem to do the scaling on card instead of leaving it to the display. Stupid nvidia ones do it with a giant black border when its in the bios etc as well.
