The condensation only forms because he opens the still very cold drive up exposing the platters to moist air. Any cold surface would do the same thing.

However I do kind of get his point. My advice would be if you can afford it and you simply can't afford to lose the data then use professionals. Otherwise try out the freezer option if nothing else has worked for you - note I have never attempted this myself!
