LOL!

My torrent downloads on average 1.5 MB/s with my anti virus left on.

Maybe I can achieve more than that without my antivirus but I am not going to do that.

Thanks

think more what tim was getting at is where antivirus's are an impedance rather than a benefit.

IMO, antivirus's are a false sense of security, and common sense tends to catch things faster than an antivirus (being pre preventive rather than post event catching)

OnceBitten:
freitasm: Telling users what's torrent, how to use it is not illegal. There are lots of legal movies being distributed via torrent.

There's no direct link to a pirate site here so it's clear of the FUG. Keep it that way.

Can someone tell me what FUG is please? - sorry if that's a dumb question!

I have reset your account so you have to accept it again. Perhaps READ it this time?

So does Windows Defender / MSE ?

Giving a blanket statement that antivirus is useless, especially to people who may not have a clue about this is not acceptable imo.

I agree with nakedmolerat. A free antivirus is better than no antivirus. Current AV software doesn't even impact systems that much anymore.

Suggesting people not have antivirus is not a safe practice. Common sense is good, but even the best sometimes click the [INSTALL] button by mistake and the "Oh, shit" moment is gone after that.

kinda missed the point i was making a bit.

i was making a point about reliance rather than weather you should use one at all. yes some protection is good, but it doesnt always work. one should not expect the protection to work, but use a bit of common sense, and hopefully any slipups to get caught.

personally i run about 50/50 of an antivirus being on or off, i toy with alot of files that get false positives due to the packing used, or when recording, an antivirus doesnt need to be sitting their scanning my capture as its hitting the disk, its unneeded overhead.

Remember there are anti piracy laws, a copyright holder can request your information from your ISP and serve you with a warning notice. After three warning notices you can get sued.

Awards in NZ have been much more reasonable than the US awards, but it's something you want to avoid.

As mentioned previously, there's a lot of legal content on bittorrent too.
