I ended up reliving flash from Firefox and using a send to chrome extension. Seems a bit more stable so far.

YouTube I set to default to html5. Things like tvnz tv3, stuff are the most annoying. While on iOS they work without flash, it's hard to do on a computer. I did play with user agents a little and got tvnz to work via html5 (or whatever it is). But for those ill just send them to chrome.

In my case I re-enabled protected mode and hardware acceleration and it's still fine after this long so it was the sound drivers update that must have fixed it.
