snonoz: Hi
bradstewart: ...It is hard to look past a 8600GT/GTS or even the 8800GS/GT

Oh if only the 8800GS/GS was in my price range... maybe need to sell more stuff on TM and wait!

go 8800GS $300,  umm you can't sell hair on TM, in case your pulling it out, trying to find the money and wonder on selling it.

A 'new psu would be good to look for TM,  pricespy can give you an idea on the pricing.

Im looking to upgrade my graphics too, and from my search through the net looking at reviews, its seems that the difference in 256 and 512 RAM comes down to the resolution you use. 256MB are usually on par with 512MB cards of the same spec at low resolutions, until you get to high resolutions, then the 512MB cards come in to their own while the 256MB cards start to struggle. Im used to using low resolutions, 1024x768, so im guessing 256MB will be enough for my use. However, this is something i deduced from benchmark results. The reveiws didnt actually say this was the fact. Maybe someone in the know can confirm whether this is actually the case, as i have had no real world experience of it. Hope this helps.

One thing I recommend if your wanting reliability is look for the heatpipe models :) I've got an old Geforce 8600 GT 512MB completely silent I love it, compared to my last GPU which drove me up the wall after playing games for a good hour :)
