Have a look at the ex lease computers this guy sells.

NZ PC Clearance - Desktops

Any of these would be miles faster than what you've got, and do what you want. The ones costing about $200 and over are even half decent by todays standards.

Note: I'm in no way affiliated with this outfit, but have successfully brought a few computers from them, and they're excellent.

It's not a buffering issue, his PC is highly underpowered for watching videos on the internet. I would recommend getting a ex leased PC or laptop to replace your PC.

That should be ok. I have purchased similar spec machines and they cope with a variety of streaming video.

To be sure we are making the right recommendation can you tell us which video services you use?

The DC 7700 can use a core 2 duo processor, and your SFF unit the will accept a low profile PCIe graphics card. I would suggest an Nvidia GT610 card. Most of the GT 610 cards are low profile, but sometimes they don't include a low profile bracket, you would need to do your homework. Should be about $60-$70.

This one looks ok if you don't have anything next to your PCIe slot, as the heatsink makes it double width:

Yes if it has the correct motherboard. Do you know this?

Imho better to replace the unit for $119. Anything can go wrong during an upgrade scenario.

But if upgrade is possible there are plenty of processors and graphics boards of that vintage lying around the place. Dead machines with good components are chucked every day. It could be a win but better have $119 in your pocket before starting ; ).

OP, have a look at this link to old post of my DC7700 SFF,

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumId=84&topicId=152119

This above post is over 18 months old though, mine has a C2D instead of P4, used as a htpc, does sd fine but to weak for 720p/1080i.

I never did upgrade anything, just use my Android media box now, I would suggest get a second hand pc with a C2d or better cpu as a P4 cpu is just to weak now

or

get a cheap card off Trademe for $10-$40 if it works in your system or take your pc into a computer shop that has a cheap low-end GPU for $50-$70 and ask them to put in and set up drivers/software for you.
