Then uninstall flash & java . Or at least make flash, java so they wont run be default (FF has that option, it will ask each time)

 

Ghostery does more than just 'block adverts' btw.

 

 

Ghostery is just another filter (with a nice UI).  It has a blacklist of sites which it can block access too if you desire.

It's no different to adding another Filter List to AdblockPlus/uBlock Origin.  Except that the addition of it uses more memory and processing time, because now there's two addons that are checking every http your browser makes, taking up CPU and memory.  

Also, AdblockPlus and uBlock don't track you to make money.

I was having some real trouble with youtube, Facebook videos stalling after playing for a few seconds, the video freezes and sound carries on, video will catchup few seconds later.  I learnt installing an Ad blocker (Ad block ultimate for Safari) fixes this, and it did!  I really didn't mind ad's on sites etc not so bothered by them, however when they start interfering with my online experience then something had to be done.

Only using it for youtube and Facebook right now.

I've been using uBlock Origin with chrome for a couple of weeks now (and put it on my mate's rebuilt* PC).

It works very well in the background, the pages' rendering isn't mucked up, the content that should be there is there, and ad-heavy pages** load noticeably quicker. It's extremely easy to disable for "trusted" pages where there isn't any advertising anyway, and for sites like this one where you don't mind viewing advertising.

*I started this quest after a mate's Win 7 laptop was infected by ransomware after probably clicking on a malicious/infected ad. The PC now has Win 10 clean install, Win Defender, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium, Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit free, uBlock Origin, Dropbox Pro, no Flash, no Java. I was able to decrypt the files using the RannohDecryptor from the Kaspersky website.
