Good. Totally in breach of the license, but it will probably work.

You may need to use the phone activation. But it should work. If she uses any "assistive technologies" you can then upgrade (7 or 8) to Windows 10.

Bah humbug I hate computers,

Installed AVG it installed beautifully smoothly quickly, rebooted logged in to be greeted with a black screen with only the cursor, the only thing that worked was ctrl-alt-del, finally got into safe-mode and uninstalled avg , then ran start up repair, now its back to running fine.

So any suggestions for a vista friendly free antivirus (as most don't officially support vista) that isn't cloud based.

And yes the computer will get either upgraded if I find a licence or replaced later in the year, its a shame as this thing is in mint condition as its only used a few hours a month (hence the dial up I guess)

Avast has become quite resource intensive lately. Also, make sure to switch off any spoken alerts.

Also it looks like Microsoft Security Essentials still supports vista. This may actually be a better bet than avast.
