Extremely concerned to hear this - to say the least.

I've forwarded the thread to the SSD product manager to investigate and follow up with the Henderson branch, and also to the education manager to follow up with the school.

@Boeingflyer Any further info you can provide - brand/capacity, time of day, who you dealt with, where/when the order was placed if it wasn't a straight over-the-counter purchase, and where in the store the drive was retrieved from would be greatly appreciated. If you wouldn't mind flicking the details through to the head of web sales at paul.barr@pbtech.co.nz, we can get the stock pulled from the branch, trace the shipment to find out how this happened, and make this right with you as well.

Thanks for the heads up @blakamin.

That's even more concerning. There should never be any room for cross-contamination between the teams who customise machines for deployments, the teams who strip down and refurb used machines, and new component stock. Will have to pull and inspect all branch and head office stock - assuming it's the same brand and capacity.

Please send any info you can through to Paul as above.

Absolutely yes. Please send the invoice number through if you have it.

Was yours an Apacer unit too? What was the capacity?

From his post it looks like BMITs was an Intel not apacer unlike @Boeingflyer and @askelon

Will let BMIT know to get in touch

Just sent him an email with a photo of the invoice. Did you want the number as well?

Perfect, thank you.

Store managers are now across this, stock will be recalled, and there will be a full investigation starting Monday.

@nikt I purchased in Intel 600P 256GB SSD from the Christchurch branch around mid day today. As soon as I connected the drive and turned the PC on, it ran a Windows 10 install for 32/64 bit.

I assumed that this was a refurbished model as new drives should be blank. After installing the OS, I assigned the boot partition with a drive letter and investigated what was in that partition.

There were two concerning files that thankfully weren't malicious, however it is concerning that I purchased a "new" product and noticed the drive had already been used for approx 18 hours BEFORE I installed the system.

The SSD is a legitimate Intel drive however it's clearly been used previously.

I was unable to format the partition or wipe the drive entirely. I couldn't install a fresh OS onto the drive so I have packaged it up and will return it in store tomorrow.

I will be in touch tomorrow with you also to keep you posted.

Now that's a responsible, prompt response from PBTech. For whatever reason, things go wrong from time to time. It's positive to see this reaction.

Good work @NikT - who probably has better things to do on Saturday night!

Thanks heaps for the details - If you could please send these and the invoice number through to Paul.Barr@pbtech.co.nz, that would be brilliant.

Unfortunately probably best if the Christchurch team don't provide you with a replacement from the same stock as they'll all need to be checked - unless you don't mind them opening one up in-store to confirm it's not affected?
