ech3lon: Faulty psu usually will not power on at all but worth mentioning, it may have flaky components but hasn't completely dead.

Thats the first thing I would try. It could be a dead rail. As in Still putting out 5v and 12v but not 3.3v or something. I have seen the symptoms you have mentioned be caused by a partially dead Power supply.

@lxsw20 could a dodgy psu also cause one of the fuses in the switchboard to trip, even though the server is plugged into a ups?

we have been having issues for a few weeks with one of the rcd/safety switches in the switchboard popping, which unfortunately also takes out the freezer.

Quite possibly.

Given the age of the server, the PSU would be one of the first things to check.

A replacement PSU should be around $50-$60.

I have decided to bite the bullet and retire the server.

While researching bit and pieces I discovered WHS2011 has gone end-of-life, and its past time to put it to rest.

First thing I need to do is set up a new free DDNS to replace my Microsoft Live Domain.

Any recommendations?
