I have seen examples where Firefox quantum has had difficulties with saved site data.These were secure sites. Reinstalling clears it all. If you makes sure you clear ALL site data it also fixes it. When you next go to the site you need to log in again. Don't expect anybody to admit ownership of the problem.

Have you tried updating FF - or regressed it? A lot of bugs in FF these days after v52. The ESR versions are not so bad.
If automatic updates are enabled in FF there's a good chance an update is behind the syntax error. I'm not a developer but syntax error to me indicates a problem in the code, meaning a bug....
I don't have automatic updates on - I held off the latest level for a couple of updates on another issue - it now seems to have come right. These very rapid updates seem as much to keep up with competitiors as adding new, tested, improvements. It's worse in some software - such as accounting software. In the old days we had a new version every year. Since cloud software has taken the world by storm changes are constantly appearing.
I have found the IRD system in Firefox almost working recently. Doesn't work perfectly, but a couple of clicks and it's where it should be.
