A few months ago our old but trusty Oki Colour Laser printer (not multifunction) died. We purchased an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281fdw for under $300, I see they're currently on special at Warehouse Stationery.
It was fairly big financial outlay given we are generally very infrequent printers, but we were used to the quality & speed of Laser and understood that Lasers handled infrequent use better than inkjets which dried out...
Of course the whole financial model with ink cartridges (& laser toners) is ridiculous, I read somewhere that ink cartridge refills work out to be one of the most expensive liquids by volume on the planet...
Anyway, the HP's been excellent and was perfect timing given the subsequent working from home during lockdown - both Printer & Scanner functions got a workout. I would really miss the convenience of high-quality printing at home without one.
There are some very handy features that are probably quite common in printers these days; full wireless network functionality meaning you can easily print from any device in the home, but the even handier one for us is "Email to Print" - when you're out and about anywhere you can simply forward an email or document to an email address assigned to your printer, and it prints immediately and be waiting for you at home.
Yes, the HP comes with reduced-size Toners (700pg colour, 1400pg black) and the full-size Toner replacements are pretty expensive, but to be honest we'll probably never need to replace them (colour in particular) for years at least.
I normally steer clear of HP products and would probably recommend a similarly spec'd Brother but don't regret my purchase.
