the Ryzen 3000 may be slight lower in max frequency but it does more work per frequency so its every thread will be faster than the 6700's thread, and there's more of it, so it will be much faster.

how much i don't know

when i was exporting 1000 photos the other day my 6700K took what felt like a couple of hours. i was watching the CPU load - it fluctuated from 50-100%. not sure why it had to drop down to 50% between the max loads but who knows.

either way, it will be faster.

whether it's worth the money only the OP can say. for me no, coz I don't do these exports often enough and when I do them I just leave it alone for a while. is it nice to have a ryzen 3900? yes! i'd also love to have an RTX 2080 Ti! but my 1080Ti combo can run games at ultra at 1440p at 144 fps so there is no need to go any better for now.

Here's my current workflow once I get home from an event.

1: Import photos to M2 drive

2: Open with photomechanic cull (rate 4 & 5 star)set captions

3: Import to Lightroom, and run ocr plugin to detect bib numbers and add them to the caption

4: While the ocr is running I make adjustments, levels, curves, dehaze, crop etc

5: Export edited photos in 3 batches (5 star web res with sponsors watermark, 5 star high res for client and for my website, 4 star high res for my website only)

6: Upload to website

Occasionally if I have a bit more time I'll export the edited photos and run a highpass filter Batch sharpen process in CS6 and then upload them

In the future I'll be doing more video work, 4K and 1080p 240 so improvements there aren't essential but would be handy

I found with Lightroom I'm I select 1 quarter of the photos and run 4 batch exports at once (4 lots of 250 in your case) it's faster overall than exporting all 1000 at once, yesterday however it wouldn't respond once I set the first batch of 350 exporting

I'm a part time photographer and shoot most of my events (fun runs) on Sundays, normally getting home around 1-2 Sunday arvo, I've gotta be all wrapped up by Sunday evening so when I go back to my day job on Monday I don't have to think about it any more.

But I also shoot M10 Cup Rugby which I like to process as soon as I get home while watching the replay so I can upload reasonably quick.

totally do it! (upgrade to ryzen 3900X)

you should benefit from getting a used GTX 1070 for a few quid. from my extensive home testing, the GPU is there only to produce the picture on your screen. so for that second before an image appears on your screen the GPU is used. and also found that if you don't set the GPU to max performance it is too slow to react, so in that second it is running at very slow speed and does not have the chance to speed up. so run max performance so that it is always at max. i don't render video but the older reviews found the GTX 1070 to be the sweet spot where beyond that video render speed was not improved.

1070 also happens to be $$$ sweet spot so win win
