Use memtest x86 overnight to see if it's bad RAM. Then use HCI Memtest again over the next night to check the RAM from within Windows - note that you need to read the instructions and run enough instances to test all your available RAM. I've had an instance where memtest didn't detect bad ram but HCI did, after RAM replacement everything was good again. Symptoms were nothing like this though.

Have been running Memtest since midday.  3 instances each testing 2gig of ram.  Each test has over 600% coverage with no errors so probably not the ram.  This has also pushed the cpu usage right up and the temps went up to around 50C.  So it is also probably not temps.

Leaves gpu and psu nether of which I have a spare of.  I guess unless it becomes a real problem i will have to live with the odd random crash (which doesn't sit well).

download and run gpu stress test? valley benchmark comes to mind

download intel extreme tuning utility or GPU-Z and watch the GPU clocks - to double check since your diagnostic is giving 0MHz - might be an error, might be showing the culprit

Are there any adapters plugged into the machine, like network adapters etc?

What does the Reliability History say about the crashes?

My computer crashes every now and again.  There doesn't seem to be any pattern to it.  It isn't a "normal" crash like a blueWhen it happens it isn't just the display which is gone I can't save or exit programmes, or turn the computer off through the keyboard I need to power off with the power button

It "crashed" twice this morning and the last time it happened was weeks ago and before that nearly a year ago.

These sorts of problems are really annoying, not the least that everything seems to be otherwise running OK 😬

As someone said, start with easiest and work your way up … although temperature readings look OK, maybe turn system off and run a clean brush over all the connectors, fans, heat sink etc on the motherboard … blow all the dust out.  Disconnect and clean graphics connections, also check external cables and even try a replacement.

Try one monitor at a time.

Best check for graphics is using a known, good working, separate graphics card … that will tell you almost immediately if onboard graphics is causing glitch.

Don't panic! 😉

Updated the bios and stress tested the GPU with Furmark pushed temps up but only to the 50s after hours at running at 100%

Happened again last night just as I was about to turn it off.  Woke the screen up and hit the windows key and bang that weird blocky crash.

After googling I came across event viewer and found this log at the approx time of the crash

Hive \SystemRoot\System32\config\DRIVERS was reorganized with a starting size of 10833920 bytes and an ending size of 10829824 bytes.

Any idea what it means?

Unless you have installed new video drivers recently or they were installed Via Windows Update (which you can check in reverse order for new updates installed, and remove any that look related to try), then I am going to say you have a hardware issue.

Motherboard replacement with new graphics card (built in) would almost certainly be my best guess now.
