K8Toledo:

And how was this measurement taken? With a Watt Meter?

Power usage measured today, without monitor which is about 20W, :

  • Work laptop : 25W idle, about 45W busy
  • i7-2600K with three hard drives going full speed and CPU at 100%: 140W
  • i7-2600K at idle: 80W

All measured with the Kasa HS-110 switch / power meter. It's probably not perfectly accurate, but it's probably the right ballpark.

Hi all, thanks for the ideas etc,

I purchased an external 3.5" case, so I'm going to try them on my laptop(s), which should help figure them out better.

I also got 1 new SATA cable, so will give that a crack.
