Ragnor:  I'm sticking with a "get an intel when the price comes down or wait for the fixed generic's" approach.

That's cool, but I see benefit in an SSD for those reasons we've both mentioned:  size, heat and noise/moving parts.  I guess the thing is, do you come out and say "don't get them because they don't out-perform regular hard drives and they're expensive" or do you say "here are the problems and benefits for either argument" and let someone choose their own path.  For me those three factors alone are enough to sell me on it.  performance isn't an issue for me really, because I'm not going to be doing a lot of stuff that requires speedy disc access.  So the premium I pay for the device is offset by those benefits I'll enjoy.

That's not to say the same benefits are important to Adamal of course, but at least a fair assessment can be made now

Well, I got one and I have to say that I'm happy so far. The low access time makes itself apparent. I'm just about to do some testing with a few games, although with only 64gb, I imagine I'll installing and then uninstalling!

Just working around in Windows is more fluid, and a positive for me is it won't get bogged down as much when data gets shifted around.

Well, I did a couple of tests on my drives just to see how it performed. Unfortunatly, I only did read tests, as write tests are destructive, and I don't want to loose anything!

Heres a read test using HD Tune. Left is the OCZ SSD, middle is a single Seagate 7200.11 1TB, right is a 2TB RAID0 using 2x Seagate 7200.11 1TB drives.
All are connected to an average ICH9R onboard controller.

Heres the random access test on the same drives
