OMG yes kill IE6!
Other browsers other than IE7 and IE8 will run on a slow computer.
Thanks for this post, now I am going to send an agreeance message via that original link you posted to congratulate them.
I can't wait until the other large sites discontinue support for IE6 - we should make that day (whenever that happens) an international holiday.

ill still make my sites work in IE6 until they drop to around 5%.

i dont make them pretty, i dont include all the features. but i do make sure it looks alright (no PNGs with gray backgrounds) and everything they need to do does work (can actually contact us via a contact form etc).

on the admin sections of my websites however i place a "This browser is out of date and unsupported..." and don't even attempt to support anything below IE7 (which I'll be dropping support for probably when that begins to drop as well).

commercially you cant just "screw over" 10-20% (yeah its still that high on some sites) of visitors/potential clients, and if i did, i probably wouldnt get anyone hiring me to make their websites.

The thing is that IE6 is a security threat so shouldn't be used according to microsoft. Trying to get a website to appear well in IE6 ijust requires far too much extra work these days, due to teh way it works with CSS.

depends on the website, if its a really interactive site with lots of jquery etc, then sure.  but if its just a normal company site, it doesnt take that long to make it work in IE6 actually.  If you get it to work perfectly in chrome/firefox you usually only have to reposition a few things in the IEs.   I can get most website i work on running good enough in IE6 in a few hours.  So thats worth the extra little effort.  Just not worth it for a admin portal where you can specify "minimum requirements" a little easier.
