Probably just as dangerous, but potentially more rewarding would be to extract the gold from the card like they did at Tom's Hardware :)

shill be right eh and if card burns was rubish anyway.
this card is MSI factory overclocked version and no i have not overclocked this one it just started playing up in 3d gaming so i must make a youtube video will keep you posted

PS i got a plan oven outside... hose ..hang on oven electric.. i got googles and face mask and ballooms and camera also telephone...ahahah im sure is not that risky.

as you say, the card is scrwed as is, so you have nothing to loose.
As others have said just be careful with the fumes, and report back as to how it goes!

Guess what a friend told me that if i underclock the card will stop artifacting and it worked so means hardware possibly the ram packing up or faulty. so will punish the little red ridinghood over the weekend and if any signs of weakness will go through the oven first thing on monday.

it wont work unless you can focus the heat on the right places (if that's indeed the cause of your misery). an uneven blunderbust nuclear bomb will most likely fry good parts and do nothing to your cracks

That's what I said on the previous page! For the best way to test/punish your card I'd recommend using the folding@home GPU memory tester (link in my previous post), starting @ ATI standard clocks (not the factory overclocks) and then lowering it until the memory stops pulling up errors...

Putting it in the oven shouldnt cause any problems providing its not in there for too long on too high (not sure household ovens can get "too high" though)

When the cards are built they are sent through a giant oven anyway so this shouldnt be much different
although i recommend just using a heatgun and minifluxer (used to be available from jaycar)
and just focus on the GPU and ram chips - less chance of baking connectors and caps that you dont need to bake.

Ive fixed 2 ps3's and one graphics card this way.

My local computer guy that we buy parts/ get computers serviced from actually tried the oven trick on my old Radeon x1600 when it died so it seems a pretty legit way of fixing some problems, as long as you know what youre doing that is...

hair dryer won't be enough :)

Video tape it going into the oven, just remember use tinfoil underneath it... had a similar issue with my old 8800GT, it worked afterworks and stopped artifacting, it was in there for about 15 minutes at 150

Also..remember not to forget about it. When trying to modify my old Skyline headlight, I put it in the oven, went onto the computer and forgot about it, 1 hour later, there was a puddle on the kitchen floor of wet hot ABS plastic and inside all that remained was the glass cover!!!

If you leave it in there too long you'd run the risk of stuffing any caps on the board too...I assume what you might acheive is to re-flow any BGA solder joints - make sure your card is rather horizontal...

Thanks guys for your advise, I have underclocked the hd 3870 and no artifacts in windows or any popcaps games even no artifacting in CS1.6 or CSS but when i use the scope of the sniper rifle i can see some tiny black dots on the picture and disappear when use pistol. i tried left for dead and does artifact with black dots it is playable but anoying. i tried the other night the hairdryer and no luck maybe not hot enough.
so tomorrow friday morning is going in the oven and will videorecord the whole thing and will show you guys the video tomorrow evening if i can or on saturday morning.
