edit - As for web streaming, VLC plays no part whether it's installed or not on an PC.

If IE8 had less exploits than Google Chrome, why did it get pwned so quickly at Pwn2own? IE9 is a big leap forward for Microsoft but it's still for most people the least preferred browser, for those who either have no choice (work computer) or don't know there are other options then Excellent...

Anyway, not trying to change the subject, in general you shouldn't troll other peoples opinions. We get you are fully in love with Microsoft, and us people on the forum don't know your actual real name, but for the sake of others trying to help out it's not worth jumping in and basically saying "Microsoft is teh best"

Why I recommended Google Chrome + VLC was for these:

VLC has a plugin for Google Chrome, for example, it streams video off TVNZ no problems straight in the browser.
Google Chrome has the latest version of Flash with each release, making it that touch more secure + simple.
It's a nice browser.

I am going to end it there. Trying Chrome is a good option since TVNZ also has a flash player which works well.. I am not in love with Chrome, you can ask others, it's simple, it works, end of story.

Before accusing me of trolling (I was merely pointing what the 'real' facts are by providing sources which provided thorugh explanation), I should let you and others know that out of the blue, you were the one to send me a private message on geekzone with the title 'Try linux' in which you were annoyed that my forum name is billgates and my signature links consisted of MS products. You kept trolling in private messages and kept harrassing me when I told you to stop sending me messages. I still have those messages in my account.

You seem to always reply in MS related thread where I reply and always launch a counter offensive towards me and 'MS solution' that I provided.

As for your IE8 remark, and Chrome being secure at pwn2own competition, here is an eye opener for you. Google released last minute updates to their chrome browser before the start of the pwn2all competition to fix the vunerabilties.

Ok folks...

Is Chrome a valid alternative? Yes, for those service that have alternate Flash Player (like TVNZ On Demand).

Is Chome the best/only solution? No, and it depends on the requirements at hand. As far as I can see here the OP used TVNZ as an example, but gives the impression there are other sites - in which Chrome may not be the solution if the only player is WMP.

So please MM, read topics carefully, and don't go off topic again. A suggestion is fine, when related to the topic at hand - the OP asked about media, not about speed and security, so no need to evangelise your personal choice, branching into completely off topic discussions.

On the TVNZ site click the use flash player link, looks the flash player serves high quality/resolution video than the wmv player does anyway.

For getting wmv working in other browsers both VLC and Media Player Classic HC can install plugin's than can play wmv content.

For getting IE working again try reinstalling windows media player.
