Anyone have any experience/knowledge with Samsung? They are making some nice looking and reasonably spec'd laptops.

For example

...but I know nothing about the build quality or support.

maybe i'm barking up the wrong tree here but the theme seems to be which brand rather than specs ... the dell i quoted is IVYbridge which is the latest in technology (USB 3 included), has 8GB ram which runs on 1600MHz, has quadcore processor, one TB of disk space, and ATI HD7730 (i think) which is the latest upper mid range graphics card ...

just sayin ... i guess a dell is not a bmw nor toyota nor a honda but a decent japanese car ...

I hate fan noise. Must be slightly autistic. Those super grunty laptops sound like vacuum cleaners on full suck.

Ivy Bridge should help with that. They produce less heat, but as they're smaller they run a little hotter, but overall less cooling should be needed.

Yep the Dell has definitely caught my eye, and yes you are onto it...really just looking for brand recommendations.  They will all do the same job, and mostly have the same insides, it just seems some are built better than others and some have better support in NZ.

I think I am getting a handle on the current trend...cheers
