I received Kaspersky Pure via freitasm on Friday and got going on trying it out after work (On 32bit Vista). Initial thoughts are that the UI is extremely difficult to use with options hidden in unusual places and simple tasks (eg. finding a scan report) requiring flicking through multiple windows. The installation was painless and took a total of 15 minutes (with a restart). It then required 50megs worth of updates which took another 15 minutes to download (at around 30kps). The firewall initially needed to be trained on what applications to allow (although a lot of applications were automatically added from the Kaspersky Database), this slowed down internet activities every time a new application was used.

I initially tried to do a Full Scan which made the computer unusable due to high CPU/Disk load. While the computer is several years old it is still well spec'ed and could quite happily run an AVG Scan as well as allow other activities. I gave up on the scan and set it to run at 2am instead. It appears that the scan succeeded at 2am although I can't find any reports yet to confirm this.

Internet browsing through Chrome this morning was painfully slow until I adjusted a few of its Network Protection features. I disabled scanning HTTP traffic and checking all URL's against blacklists. Both of these features caused a noticeable delay (up to 30seconds, usually 5-10 seconds) between DNS lookup through to connection to the website. 

I've yet to play with Parental Control features or the Backup Feature.

All in all so far I would say I am not yet convinced that Kaspersky Pure is worth the near $300 a 2 year/3 PC licence would have cost. I will however give it some time and maybe throw a virus or two at it and see how it handles. Hopefully once everything is "trained" (as Kaspersky Pure likes to say on every other screen) it will prove to be a worthy application.

Regarding scan time, I can add that for Kaspersky only initial scan is long. All next scans process only changed and new objects, and this setting makes scanning fast enough. This is a default setting, and it can be customised.
