Nuh Uh. 1250 - 1800 minimum for a desktop, with some in the 3k range (xeon processors, quadro card graphics etc) .

Compaq is what you buy when you are looking for price.

I am looking for a decent workstation. I around $3500 is spend. Shouldn't be too hard.

Dells site - lost my saved cart three times. Their chat / support staff are multi tasking on 2+ calls at same time. Answers to questions come at least 2-3 minutes after it is asked.

Carts sent to staff to configure with extra options come back next day and are invalid, not found, in error and still dont show in my profile.

2.5 hours spent on chat, another 2 hours spent trolling their extremely slow site - I give up. Was chatting with a sales staff, told him what I wanted, 12 minutes in, no answers to questions told him he had 10 minutes to wrap this up or I would take my money else where. WE didnt even get question 1 answered.

Lenovoa site - first page didnt load all elements (200 / 200 fibre, i7 laptop, Windoze 10, latest mozilla firefox ( ME crapped out yesterday after updates ... again!!!!!)

HP - found what I wanted - http://www8.hp.com/nz/en/products/workstations/product-detail.html?oid=5225033

now I challenge anyone to figure out how to buy that sucker online. i certainly cant.

The aquire website you are sent to cant even find the product, links to buy take you to generic how to buy pages, the support page tells you how to get chat help - but there are no lonks .... and again no sale.

How blimmin hard can it be to spend $3500? coz 6 days later I'm still blowed if I know how to.

PS dick Smith, Noel Leemings, PBTech, etc etc etc dont stock pro workstations, core i5 with raid 1 hdd, 3,5", 1TB 7200 RPM. 8-16GB ram minimum and ideally windows 7.

Ascent.co.nz - looked for an i5 with tower case (SFF wont hold 2 x HDD and optical) and when I set the brnd to HP said none available when sorted by case type. howver sorted by brand - I get 244 hits, most of them without the specs the search filter shows.

Seriosuly - shoppping cart web sites are getting crappier and crappier. They should be goal driven - task focused - not full of PR crud and advertisng crap -

Their main interest is gaming PCs, but they will build you a conventional desktop PC.

I can source and build myself - but as a risk management exwercise I want my clients to have the Next business Day onsite warranties given be dell, HP, Acer etc. Gaming Pc places dont do that. Business level support is why you pay extra to dell / hp / acer / ibm / lenovo.

People still by Acer? Sounds like you were thinking with your wallet.

Acer is NOT quality or reliability

It's a Toyota laptop. And value. If your buy Apple ( my rMBP cost $3697) or Acer ( I've bought them) they are all the same architecture and made in China. I've had good UX with both although the Mac is better as you'd expect

The hard aspect is separating the Acer from the OS.

I've built MANY PC's. I'd build a business class PC by way of components as I have . Laptops you can't do that. My work Lenovo is a T410 or 430 RAM at 6GB. Can't fault it. It runs many apps and web apps. Use the right cogs for reliability, or for budget or for performance. Or combine these attributes.

Does it come with downgrade rights? It sounds like you want/should have brought a Windows 7 Pro workstation.

Acer have their own manufacturing plants in China, Apple use Foxconn, theres a big difference. Also just because Ascent.co.nz reviews shows people were happy with there Acer purchase most of the reviews would be based on the initial purchase and delivery not 9 months down the track when its shat itself.

..probably because its an old model, no longer sold ?
But I feel your pain, the HP site is a shocker, even just using THEIR search with current model numbers often comes up with zero hits....huh ?

HP Z440 is the current model and is currently available on "Special Pricing Valid to: 26/03/2016" (at a all good computer stores near you :))
