15MBps isn't far off what I get with external drives. 20-25MB/sec is about the best you can hope for in practice, I think. SATA3 is nice and fast, it doesn't seem to slow SATA down much over the drive native performance.

Unfortunatly the only video I can find of someone opening one up shows them totally screwing up the mounting clips like a giant fist handed oaf, since I want to keep the 3 year warranty I would need to be able to place them back in the case to return it and not look opened. Might just keep them running external and re-jig things around and take some of my other drives out of their esata cases to use internally instead.

The special at Dick Smith got extended for WD 2TB $139, so they must have a lot of stock of this model and decided not to increase pricing despite being able to charge say $50 more for them and still call it a special.

I paid $250 for a 2.5TB WD green drive plus an enclosure, but it's USB 3.0. I won't buy USB 2.0 any more, but I could've gotten the drive out and used it. Still could, I guess, but I don't need more storage.

Niel: What are you guys still going on about price hikes? Price Spy shows only 2% increase over the past month, before that flat.

JB HiFi is also $128 for the same drive.

I see the Seagate has over doubled in price up to to $279 at JB HiFi now and WD one is $329.

Had a look at my mum's computer today and seems that the HD is on its last legs. Heard the prices would go up 30%, but was a bit shocked to see them more than doubled!

Fortunately Dick Smith is listing the WD 2Gb for $139, which has the Green drive in it, so will get one of these and pop open the enclosure. About $80 cheaper than the drive alone! Plus get a spare enclosure to play with.
