I've decided to further tidy up my desktop :)

Got rid of the panel/taskbar as my dock can now replace it fully in terms of functionality. As a bonus I've found that the dock even has all the widgets I wanted to run!

Also since I don't really use a desktop, I've decided to do away with it using this code:

gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop false

Also changed my color scheme, theme, font, cursors, window decoration and replaced a few apps:

Clockwise from top: Nautilus Elementary (better than Nautilus!), Gloobus (preview any sort of file instantly from Nautilus), Scribes (awesome lightweight code editor), AWN (dock), GnoMenu (running as a docklet), Pidgin.

Wallpaper: Livewire by ~powerofpi
Theme: Orta
Font: Comfortaa (my current fav. font - I use it everywhere, even on the phone! Worth trying it out if you haven't heard of it)
Cursor: Gruppled (Black)
Icons: Faenza (Dark)
Window Decorator: MinimalLittleGlass (for Emerald) (customized by me to show window titles)
Other user-experience apps not-seen-above-but-worth-installing: Gnome-do (Run dialog replacement), Guake (Quake/half-life style drop-down terminal), Easystroke (Mouse gestures on steroids), wmctrl (Aero Snap like effect)

 ------

Btw folks, if you too have customized your desktop, it would be helpful for everyone if you could share what theme/wallpaper/app etc you're using like I've done above. Cheers!

You folks complain about slow web sites, and then come here and post 2MB pictures? A simple resizing would reduce those monsters to 200 KB.

I'm looking at you, Chrisjunkie...

Yeah well 2mb is fine to load personally Tongue out

I say a post your desktop thread should be high-res otherwise no one can see exactly what your desktop looks like?

You only need 72DPI to show images on web pages. That image is larger than the space available. Resize it to 720 pixels wide, 72 DPI and you get the same result.

You've either changed it or I have it cached, seriously, it's an apple product with a beach scene. Not worth 2mb!

we want to see concepts, not steal your icons an sh**

blakamin: mp1, how are you finding the new ubuntu?

From:http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=48&topicid=62312&page_no=2#488757

Not too bad, only running it on a em350 netbook till I can borrow an external cd usb drive. Just missing DreamWeaver and Photoshop.

Otherwise Ubuntu runs fine for me, the side bar to the left got a bit annoying at first, but otherwise a good system, and does 90% of what I want..

Since all Debian based distros were freezing randomly on my system, I've moved to Fedora 15 - and loving the new Gnome 3! Unity should take a feather or two out of gnome-shell's book. ;)

Currently using the Tron Legacy theme for gnome-shell:
