G'day...

Seeing as both vodafone and Telecom have their version of the WM5 Treo out or about to be out in the NZ market place, what are the pros and cons for going with either of them from a PHONE stand point of view? and possibly a supplier point of view too.

Things like;
Battery life, can I expect better battery life from vodafone etc or vis versa?
Call quality,
Features, if there is any diff between TNZ & VF
And anything else you can think of.

Did I notice that one has a SC slot while the other is a mini SD? Why is that for instance?

Which is the better phone, 700wx or 750v?

Your expert thoughts appreciated.

Technically, both are the same except different cellular chipset used for different band/connection. One is CDMA EVDO and other is WCDMA/HSDPA.

Really? I thought for instance the battery life in vodafone devices was generally better? is that not true any more?

I'd heard the Apache battery life was much shorter than say the Jam even though the devices are similar and the Apache has a slightly larger battery. I might be wrong here.

Battery life depends on which mode, and what operator you're with. that aside, the devices are identical, all other factors are depending on the usage, which should be discounted if you're seeking the difference between two different devices for different networks.

the only worthwhile comparison between the two is its guts, and since both are practically a pair of sibling, so in short, not much difference at all.

Well..there are spome differences and this is why I was asking the question...are these the same phones really. For instance, ready below.

"It (750v) is also ~1mm thinner and 26g lighter than the US 700w/wx. Along the way, the SD card slot has shrunk to a mini-SD slot, and had to be moved to the side of the device, rather than it’s normal spot up top." Review..

TNZ is getting the US 700wx..interesting.

Any comments?

those are insignificant minor difference to me.

Beside, if you are with Vodafone, you will be looking at 750v, or if you're Telecom, then 700wx. and you should be comparing them to their predecessor, instead of siblings, unless you're looking at switching over to/from Vodafone or Telecom. Even at that, two devices are too similar aside from the size, or SD/miniSD, antenna or not.

Yes I am possibly looking to switch carrier.

Q: Would the Antenna version be longer than the none antenna version? Does the 700 need the antenna b/c its a telecom phone for instance.
Q: Is the 750 a possibly later design than the 700.

Most GSM based phones these days do not have antenna, so the antenna thing is pretty much CDMA, however there are CDMA phones that don't have antenna now either.

750v is definitely "newer" with slight difference in the choice of CPU used (Samsung's actually is comparatively performing well or faster than Inter's xscale).

I'd get 750v as it has WM5 AKU3 which is "more single-hand" friendly than 700wx. and with next rom update when it is availalbe it will be HSDPA, which will be on par or faster than CDMA EVDO Rev.A

So your pick.. personally, i'd stay with vodafone and 750v as it is sleekier looking. But I made my choice, and go for JasJam as it has Wifi and bigger screen, and jogdial. Again, purely personal taste.

I have had a 700wx overnight (the 'x' is double the memory of the 700w), which is the model TNZ will release soon (cant say when, or i will get nailed, but others may also know the date by now).

Its a great phone, battery life seemed good - i hammered it, and it hardly went down, which my apache would of gone down more than twice qas much with the same usage.

As a phone it beats the apache hands down for many reasons, I will try and get this into a review tonight.

Really really nice unit.

My apache, and my tandem sanyo are both for sale as soon as I can buy a treo 700wx, as it performs well enough to be my only phone (though I will miss MMS a little).

yes, its a real sore point for Telecom that the PDAs dont do MMS... its a real pain.

G'day

Just grabbed the 750v!

And it is already the best phone/PDA ever! This thing is quick and smart...little features that are really an evolution in terms of PDA functionality.

I had the Apache (Brick) and now it fits in my palm.
I had an average phone (Brick) and now it works like a normal mobile.
Threaded SMS messaging!
PXT messages.

Gingo's the list is too long and this device just feels right, like "yeah, this is more like it!"

Hey Wayne, glad you like it. It sure is a hardest decision for me between JasJam and Treo 750v... but not so hard for you, so good on ya! (Did you have a try on JasJam though? hehe)

Regardless, Treo 750v feels great in hand, same size as JasJam too. I like the rubbery-feel to the case, that's nice.

Hope to hear/read your review from your perspective.

Q: Where is the best place to buy accessories for these? Is there anything in Auckland or local-web site?

If Palm is alike to HP's practise, that most of the existing Treo accessories should or can be used with 750v. If not, the accessories should be available soon.
