I've got a second-hand Harrier and tried to connect it up with Telecom. They hit a roadblock when programming in my new number because the phone has a lock? on it and I don't know the code. Any advice or tips on finding out the code?

Take it into a telecom store.

The only "lock" that could prevent Telecom doing a change is if the previous owner put up a PIN to protect the PDA. This will go away with a hard reset. The Telecom store should have the ability to to this. Just ask for a hard reset and from there the PDA will be completely unlocked.

THIS WILL RESET THE HARRIER TO FACTORY SETTINGS, AND DELETE ALL INFORMATION AND SETTINGS STORED ON THE DEVICE!!

A Harrier hard reset is to put the stylus in the reset hole, push that button, and hold down power at the same time.

Hmmm. If you have access to the Pocket PC then we are not talking about the security PIN, but something else. Hold on that hard reset yet.

What exactly did the Telecom store tell you?

Have only done a soft reset. Telecom store has managed to get past the initial problem (which I don't know what it was), but while I am connected up with a phone number and plan from Telecom's end my Harrier isn't connected itself (don't know details). So I have left it with them overnight to have a go at sorting it out.

You may be talking about the codes required to program the device. All telecom stores have access to them.

Just had the same problem on a second-hand Harrier I have resurrected (2 broken made into 1 good!)

I came unstuck when trying to enter the 'Unlock' code during the mobile phone number re-programming instructions that Telecom was guiding me through.

Then I realised I was entering the number on the slide-out keypad without holding down the Lock/Fn key (surrounded in red) while pressing each number key, so I was probably entering in letters!

You can also instead use the on-screen keyboard that appears as a keyboard symbol in the bottom right of the screen when the Unlock prompt is displayed (easier).

Then it worked fine using the standard unlock code! (A hard-reset doesn't change this number anyway, I believe).

I would like to thank all those who pitched in with suggestions and advice. The lock code became a non-issue in the end as Telecom played around with my phone connection and found that the ESN on the phone wasn't correct. They fixed the problem (now I just have deal with the ESN issue should I want to pass the phone on in the future). So thanks again.

The "lock code" is just a programming code.
