Have a look at SPOT and write in this thread what kind of objects should use SPOT, and what it should do?

This type of tech could really boost the Home Automation projects (and probably other stuff I can't think of). You could easily set up communication with lights, the stove, garage door, and probably even rig setups to fill a tub or sink. I know a lot is out there now, but this could make it more efficient and accessible. But the fact Microsoft is heading it is a double edged sword...

Yep, but I think this is more likely to be the domain of Bluetooth or wideband. SPOT is a one way only FM transmission, and the data comes from a provider - it doesn't have a place for end user programmatic use.

Really...? Well, I don't know then. What do you see it as?

Using SPOT you could go to a web site, register your device and enter the type of information you wanted delivered to it. Things like stock market, weather information, latest headline news.

This is the kind of stuff Microsoft proposed. But is it really a big deal to have a low bandwidth device in your wrist, when mobile networks are around us everywhere, and wireless connections are available where travellers are (hotels, cafes, airports)?

No, not a big deal at all. Most cell phones have that ability now. And of course the PDA's. Wi-Fi hubs are becoming more and more frequent too.... Interesting...

Here is an update... It doesn't seem like it'll be available anytime soon.
