Hi everybody,

Hopefully my Tungsten 3 will arrive within the next 3-4 days. I'll still get some use out of my Toshiba e740, but the T3 will be my goto pda.

Anyhow, I'm excited with the built-in Bluetooth, so communication between it and my Nokia 3650 is essential. I'm curious about mail, browsers, instant messengers, and picture messengers programs. What are your picks? Any other program picks?

through hard won experience, be cautious about ICQ for palm - I CANNOT get it working and there are litterally tonnes of postings across many forus on the same issue - I even emailed ICQ support about it. They keep giving everyone the same reply - "sorry, but we can't support the multitude of different mobile platforms - please try the next version when it is released..."

apart from that, the bog standard browser that comes with the T3 is ok (web pro I think it is) - it can be a little slow and finnicky at times, but I think that's a symptom of bluetooth in general, not the browser.

one last suggestion, get yourself a ping application (I use "mergic ping").. this is invaluable for testing connections!

Thanks for responding.

I know about ICQ--I used to own a Clie t615 and remember my own hell with that program. ;) I was just wondering about programs because I heard that some won't work with the T3.

I havn't had much trouble wiht apps not working - there were a few of the ones for my old M515 which wouldn't work (you soon find out because the whole thing just crashes on you), but most decent software has new OS5 versions available by now for download - I'm yet to find an app that wont work and doesn't have a new OS5 version.

Well, I've been having 3 problems so far: A game called 'Breakout'--the screen was all screwy/wouldn't fit right even with the slider closed. There was no way to play it. Vindigo won't load (I've posted sep. about that) Lastly, this one's a Bluetooth problem: My ppc has a bt card inside and I wanted to send all my contact info via bt to my Palm T3. That has been going tricky. I won't give up on that one. There have been a few more programs that when installed will make the T3 crash.

Candygogo, about sending your contacts... You'll achieve this through Hotsync - as you know. Make sure to install Hotsync and the PocketMirror from the CD. As I remember you had a Pocket PC before, so you should be using MS Outlook for contacts?

For the Bluetooth configuration, have a look in our Bluetooth Guides - but you also know this, right?

Pocket Mirror...I haven't inspected the cd fully yet--I suppose I should, huh? ;) Bluetooth guides-- Oh yes, BT is my FAVORITE subject Freitasm! ;)

I've just downloaded the T3 update from PalmOne....maybe some of the programs that's been crashing will perform better.

BTW, no PocketMirror for the T3 - PalmOne have now written their own Outlook conduits.

If you've got your wireless internet going, then have a look at verichat.
it'll give you icq+msn+yahoo+others running as a background process -> unfortunately not free.

also, choose either pocket Tunes or Aeroplayer for mp3/oggs (either will do)

and snappermail makes a great connected email client (pity it still doesn't do imap)

and LightNzip -> so you can download zip files using the palm's browser, then open and install them (no need to wait to get back to your PC)

Far be it from me to blow my own trumpet Mauricio ;-)

On music players, I'd recommend PocketTunes over AeroPlayer - while AP is nice, it is rarely updated anymore, and PT is promising WPA support in the near future!

For email, VersaMail is quite good, although I found a IMAP sync at HotSync time was really rather slow. Also good for syncing a copy of your Outlook inbox to your Palm. And it's free with the T3. Huzzah!

If you're into video, have a look at MMPlayer (http://mmplayer.com/) for DivX on the go. AvantGo doesn't take advantage of virtual graffiti, but there's always Plucker (http://www.plkr.org/) or iSilo (http://www.isilo.com/) - Plucket is a pain to use, but iSilo costs $$.

And don't forget the new J2ME with MIDP 2.0/CLDC 1.1 (http://www.palmone.com/us/support/jvm/) - it flies, especially compared to older versions.

and for games, check out the Palm OS games section on www.handango.com.

In particular, Warfare Incorporated and Daedalus 3D. Great way to show off your T3s power and heaps of fun.

Kinoma's great - you can encode you DVDs and store on flash card, then play back on the train, @ the gym, during PHB's meeting etc..

playback is better quality than Mplay (IMO), but you have to encode to kinoma's format - you get a little better than 1MB/minute - so a 45 minute star trek episode (minus the ads) makes about 43 MB kinoma file

you'd have to reencode your divx to TT's size anyways if you used MPlayer (unless you have a few 1GB flash cards)

GuineaPig, a MegaDrive/Genesis emulator for OS 5

ScummVM, allowing you to play LucasArts adventures games (Monkey Island!). Also Rick Dangerous is downloadable on this site.

PDArcade, a site tracking games for PPC and PalmOS

Thanks guys! I'll be checking your picks out. I use Versamail, but somehow haven't got it working correctly. I also use BugMe Messenger--I like it for sending notes and the like. I was going to try Ritemail, but I'm not too crazy about using a program I gotta spend yearly for (although I do use Vindigo...). Although I love Monopoly, I like Minipolis a bit better. There's even a New York Minipolis, so I'm a bit partial. Bejeweled is on my T3 of course. I can connect my Nokia 3650 to my T3 now, so that's cool as well!

It's a shame that not that long after getting my T3 that the Zire 72 came out, though! :(
