I have two Android handsets on Vodafone and a Lumia 1020 (my day-to-day phone). The time on Lumia 1020 is two or three minutes behind. I know the two Android are correct because my PCs all sync with ntp.net.nz time servers and the time matches with those handsets. All three handsets are on Vodafone.



Anyone else seeing this?

Voda doesn't have time on their network AFAIK, so where is the 1020 getting its time from? manually?

All handsets are set to get time from network. If not from Vodafone then they are getting from some other server. Is there a default on Windows Phone?

As far as I know WP8 does not get the time from the internet (NTP via data) if the mobile network doesn't provide it (like Vodafone).

Vote for the feature for WP8 here

Hmmm. These handsets got the date from somewhere as I have not manually set date/time for these.

Android starting using NTP from ICS onwards I think, so Android is using NTP if there is no mobile network time.

Maybe WP8 sync's time with PC via USB when connected OR maybe it does an initial time sync via data if there is no mobile network time but doesn't continue to sync. Did you ever use a 2degrees or Telecom sim when testing your lumia, might have got network time from then.

Anyway why doesn't Vodafone NZ provide network time?

Reason I've been told on numerous occasions is licencing costs, and the fact it's largely a moot point with so many new phones using NTP.

NITZ is actually a relatively uncommon thing across the world, you would think a network would just have it enabled but default but it's really only on a minority of networks globally.

yeah I meant the time though, the devices needed to get the time somehow

Yep. Setup there, got the time, moved to Vodafone and over the course of three months the clock got a bit slow...
