Given that there is no DST patch being released for Windows Mobile 2003SE, is it possible to directly modify the registry on the mobile device to achieve the change?

It's very likely possible but personally I'm working on the assumption that the inconvenience of not having the fix is not great enough for me to risk screwing things up up.

I freely confess to excessive timidity where the Registry is concerned. There Be Dragons.

IIRC Windows Mobile 2003 had all timezones in a signed DLL file, meaning it was almost impossible to replicate an update - Microsoft would have to push this do OEM and those would have to send down to users (if PDAs) or to telcos (if Phone or Smartphone) who would then push to users.

You see the problem here?

From Windows Mobile 5.0 they moved to having this in the registry... If you think "there be dragons" in the registry, imagine on a signed DLL file...

I found out that, by using this instruction at Windows Mobile Updates for Daylight Saving Time (For Windows Mobile users who do not connect to their PC), it will detect which version of WM you are running and gives you the right option to download over the air and install it.

At the moment it seems like it only support down to WM2003 SE, I have WM2003 (HP H6315) and tried that method, and it installed but whether it will work or not, we'll see.

If that failed, PM me and I will get in touch of you on some suggestiong to get WM2003 SE updated/patched.

Internet is my backyard...

The MS download page which that URL eventually leads to for this says: "NOTE: The download for Windows Mobile 2003 does not [my emphasis] contain Daylight Saving Time changes for New Zealand ..." !

Maybe manually switching 'phone's TimeZone to Tonga (only) for the weeks of the extended NZ beginning and ending periods would work, and keep Outlook appointments and any automatic clock/time updates on track?

Just make sure that if you create any appointment on your Pocket PC falling outside the new DST weeks then you switch the timezone back to New Zealand so that it is correctly entered into the system database.

I have a Navman PiN570, which I guess is PocketPC 2003. I have downloaded and installed several versions on the "Windows Mobile Updates for Daylight Saving Time", including, (inadvertently) US/Canada and New Zealand versions.

Having subsequently tested the update by rolling the date and time forward to 1:59am Sep 30, none of the updates work.

The information on the Microsoft site it is unclear to me what versions are supported. I think I will just get up on Sunday morning and change the date manually. Then on Oct xx I will change it again etc...

Mauricio, can you expand a little on what you say? The settings are in a DLL that cannot be changed/updated?

That's exactly what happens with Pocket PC OS 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003. Of course the DLL can be updated, but distribution requires digitally signed files, and each manufacturer would have a different process. Also remember that Windows Mobile 2003 is about four years old and out of support now, I think.

I had a colleague with the same issue for PPC2003 and found this page for him.

Luckily a chap here in NZ has created a cab file that changes the registry for you.

Worked for my colleague is all I'll say :)
