Have had a windows, android and iphone for 3 years now and to be honest the windows phone overall is the most professional and overall well balanced OS.

Im just finding the 620 hangs a bit now, chugs. I dont want to spend much, I want a good cheap option just slightly quicker than my 620 and slightly bigger screen.

Would the 635 be the best choice?

Depends what you mean by cheap. The 735 is $266 from Harvey Norman, and the 640 is $299 from Vodafone or Spark, both good devices.

have a look at the 535, 540 (not too sure on availability of this one in nz) and even 435 (depending on how important the camera is to you)

i think the 4 and 5 series would be a step backward from the 620 with 8mp camera.

the 735 and 640 though offer more ram and cpu and larger size, but i find 5" just too big, the 4.5" is nicely pocketable, which is what i love about the 620, its the size of a phone. but its draw back is button size.

I think the 535 surpasses it in most ways - Improved CPU, 1GB of ram, better battery, etc. Camera is also 5MP though I think, not sure exactly how it compares though. It does also have a 5MP front facing camera which would be good if you do much skype or selfies, lol. Yeah, the size might be the one off-putting thing though.

635 looks like a very solid option, though the 735 is a brilliant handset. Just got one for the wife - beautiful screen, 4.7" is pretty much perfect size IMO, 6.7MP with Carl Zeiss optics (some may say a gimmick but I think the 720 before it and now the 735 take amazing photos for the price) better battery than the 635 and built in wireless charging - if you can get your hands on a charging plate I really like this. Only real issue I have with the 735 is lack of a hardware camera button - a real oversight IMO.

I had a 720 for 2 years and have recently upgraded to a 830. Both the 720 and 830 have dedicated camera buttons, and personally, I wouldn't buy a phone without one.

The person I sold my 720 to just bought it while waiting for her 735 to arrive. Now that it has, she actually likes the 720 better, partly because of the dedicated camera button, but also because of its better battery life. She finds the 735 doesn't last anywhere near as long as the 2-year old 720 I sold her. TBH, that's a real surprise, as I expect the battery in the 720 doesn't last as long as it did originally.

To me, the key things in choosing which model of Lumia are:

Dedicated camera button
1GB of RAM (my 720 only had 512MB and it often wasn't enough)
'Clear Black' screen coating with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 (some of the cheaper Lumias don't have this)
Wireless charging
4G

My 830 ticks all those boxes and they are now available for $379 from Parallel Imported (possibly even cheaper elsewhere). I'm not willing to pay more than $400 for a new phone, but at the same time, skimping and missing out on desirable features is a false economy IMO. Better to just wait a bit longer until a new model comes out, and pick up last year's one for much less.

No definitely 8mp camera with dedicated camera button. But its a dual core 1GHZ and I think only 512MB of RAM which is what is destroying my experience with the newer OS updates etc. Also the front facing camera is REALLY average, does the job, although I dont think Id ever use a front facing cam, not into selfies hehe.

Thanks for the info though, food for thought.

I have had the Lumia 735 for a few weeks now, love it as a work phone.

Like i have said in the past, for $250 - $280 its a great phone for the price. When it not on sale it goes for $600 but I would not pay that for the phone as you are better off getting a 830 for $599 from spark or $400 from an importer

the 735 seems to be bang for buck.

sidefx i think you are right, they are all 5mp no matter where bought from. takes good photos for 5mp. the camera button i like.

Interestingly even though the 830 has a 10mp camera and the 735 a 6.7mp (and a significantly better 5mp front facing). the 735 has much better aperture of f1.9 vs the 830s f2.2. So in theory the 735 should be a better low light camera.

Would love to see some low light photo comparisons.

edit: yep its mentioned for its low light shots in a couple of reviews ive read, not in comparison, just the 735 is a good low light shooter.

Ok this is more than I wanted to spend but I noticed the 2.2GHZ quad core processor of the 930. Is it still a good phone or is the 1020 a better buy for the money?
