Hi,

I have recently purchased the SonyEricsson z1010 and want to connect it to my Ipaq 3870 over bluetooth. The initial problem is that I can´t "set as bluetooth dialup modem" in the bluetooth manager - that alternative never shows in the menu. (Neither does send business card etc) The bonding seems to work fine.

I have tried to upgrade to bluetooth manager 1.1b, but there is no difference.

Anyone got any ideas?

Cheers

Joakim

I guess you've followed this guide? If so, it should work. There's a known problem on Bluetooth on Pocket PC OS 2002, where it supports only six or seven profiles. If the other device shows more than this, the Bluetooth stack would crash or not work. We have a Z1010 review and when I was testing it Bluetooth Dial-up worked fine (there are a couple of screenshots on that review).

Thanks for quick response! I had a look at the guide, but the problem is that the message "Retrieving services for this device" never goes away. This means that the item "set up as bluetooth modem" never shows in the action-menu.

I only have one profile in the bluetooth manager, so that isn´t applicable either.

And hear this, the funny thing is that when I bond my old phone (Sony Ericsson t610) - the services is being retrieved rapidly AND I can add it as a bluetooth modem... ???

Any more ideas?

The number of profiles that impacts on this operation is on the other device, not your Pocket PC. Profiles are also known as "services". The "Retrieving Services for this device" message you see indicates your Pocket PC is trying to connect to the other device to get the list of services (otherwise known as profiles).

It is at this point the Bluetoot stack crashes. I'd recommend going to Windows Mobile 2003 to make sure your Pocket PC will work well with new Bluetooth devices.

Got ya!

I understand that it is the number of services on the phone that counts, the z1010 has nine!

Is there any way to work around this problem without upgrading to ppc 2003? I´m kind of reluctant to invest more money in my old 3870. Are there for example any other bluetooth managers that I could download.

Nope, sorry. The only update for the h3870 is to move it up to Windows Mobile 2003 OS. I think it costs around US$35, depending on where you're located.

Guess what? I actually got it to work without upgrading to ppc 2003!!!

I downloaded the Billionton BTW-ce driver 1.3.?.? (don´t remeber the last figures) and installed it over the existing bluetooth manager. The installation was no problem and now I got the same bluetooth manager as eg. the 5450. The new bluetooth manager works perfectly with the z1010 and I managed to get everything working with surfing over 3G with the ipaq :-)
