After the announcement in Barcelona Nokia has published their new GPS software on their Beta Labs website.
Nokia Maps 2.0 Beta

Important for N95-1 users: it only works with the latest v20 firmware!

I am downloading it now!

The NZ map is only 6.6 MB Cry

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I'll be interested in whether the actual maps are any better than the current ones. That's the big downfall with the current version of Nokia Maps - the app itself is OK, but the maps are crap (lots of roads missing, not all road names, etc...)   NZTechFreak had a blog post with screenshot of an awesome NZ maps app, but no further details yet...

The Nokia Maps 2.0 Beta comes with the new Map Loader 1.3.5
I downloaded and installed it, then started.

If you choose the Australia/Oceania category and go into, it shows that the NZ map is 0.7MB big only!!! Australia is 106.2MB.
Software bug maybe? In the main map category it shows that Australia/Oceania is 114.8MB. 106.2+0.7 is not 114.8. Oops.
114.8-106.2=8.6MB

I will try to restart the program.

BTW you cant use your old maps with the new software, you have to download every maps again.

Strange. I will remove the program and re-install everything.
At the moment there is absolutely no map for Auckland, no streets, nada. I can see streets with names in Sydney, but not in Auckland.

If anybody else downloaded, do you have the same issue?

Agree. What a disappointment.
It seems that they removed the basic 6.6MB NZ map package from their map catalogue and replaced it with a rubbish 0.7MB one, which hardly contains anything.

The new satellite map feature is nice, but you cannot download the satellite images in bigger packages only tiles by tiles as you browse the map.

In this case the software has the Beta status and not the maps.  The Nokia software use 3rd party maps for its GPS program.
If the software will reach the public status it will still use the same maps, which has no proper NZ maps in it. Shame.

Good news!!!

I asked Nokia about New Zealand maps and I've got the following answer:

Navigable New Zealand map data will be available for the final Nokia Maps 2.0.  Woohoo!

SERIOUSLY????!!!!!??? I have always felt a little ripped-off when other countries could enjoy the detailed Nokia mapping whereas we in NZ get nothing.

Hope it is true and they stick to their words:) I wonder what the ETA is.

Anyway, thanks for the positive news:)  Woohooo!
