Got a brand new HP8710w laptop here with bluetooth, so im trying to get activesync working via bluetooth, as well as the oktas ICS (assuming this will work when i get activesync going)

Its paired correctly, on the touch Activesync is ticked. When i scan for services on the touch, the laptop it says that it has successfully allowed the touch to connect to activesync, and activesync on the laptop starts to connect. But as soon as the scan finishes, trying to sync via bluetooth in activesync says that it cant find a partnership supporting activesync, though activesync is ticked.

Drivers are Widcomm on the laptop, heres some screenshots:

Any ideas how to get this to sync?

You have to create the pairing from your Okta Touch, not from the laptop.

To start ActiveSync you tap on Connect from your Okta Touch's ActiveSync application.

No need to setup anything for Internet sharing. As soon as a Windows Mobile device is connected it should automatically have access to the Internet through your laptop's own connection - this is known as ActiveSync Passthrough.

Sometimes you might have to check the firewall software if things don't work quite well.

Thanks! Syncs fine now.

The internet sharing requires turning on Network Access via bluetooth places, but ah well, its better than carrying a cable.

You don't actually need the Bluetooth Network Acccess - if you connect via ActiveSync your device automaticlly gets Internet connectivity. You only need the Bluetooth Network Access if you want to access resources on your network - such as shared folders - which is something not available on the ActiveSync PassThrough.

Actually im using network access to go the other way, sharing the Touch's 3G to the laptop.

Though what you say doesnt work, the laptop is on the net via wifi and the touch is connected to activesync, but it still says it cant syncronize with the exchange server.

That's probably because of your network configuration - you probably don't have your own DNS server so the ActiveSync sees the server as being outside - but actually doing a loopback to the router/perimeter of your network.

Just add the Exchange Server address (as entered in the device) to your hosts file with its internal (LAN) IP address and it will work.

Its not actually a bluetooth issue, it wont sync via usb.
The exchange address is an internet one, it says it cant connect with current connection settings. This is at home, not at the office. Im sure it used to work with the old laptop?

It can sync over 3g fine however. Maybe i'll just use that.

edit: it now says "The server cannot be reached. This may be due to temporary network conditions"
Internet explorer on the phone obviously doesnt work either.

(i think this worked on the apache, not sure if ive done it on the touch)
