Hi folks, what's everyone using to play music on their S60 3rd ed phones? The default music player seemed somewhat limited - I couldn't see a way of playing a particular folder only.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Dany

i think that is quite common now unfortunitely, i certainly can't play folders on my current n95 8gb-  most phones now require playlists and or the use of albums/artists/genres etc.
I haven't seen an option on my last 2 phones to play a folder (nokia, iphone...  not sure about the Blackberry??? , and i could on the old windows mobile phone...

I'm a "folder player" myself too - must be a minority! Thanks for the links Canterbury - I too miss my win-mobile way of playing a folder now I have an N95.

There are quite a few players in the Geekzone Software Store - have you tried CorePlayer?

Remember if you use the code "geekzone" you get a 15% discount...

That TTpod definately looks good (and free!). Lastest ver is 3.2.1, but it's hard to find an english, signed one.
How hard is it to hack an N95-1 to load unsigned apps? (I also see people talking about signing the apps themselves, is that an easier way to go?)

Cheers..

No, I haven't tried Core Player - it has lower rating than Mobiola so I thought I'd give Mobiola a try. Unfortunately the installation procedure gave an "Expired Certificate" error! Bummer!

So far it has met every one of my expectations. It simply works the way I expect a media player to work, ie. being able to choose exactly what I want to play without having to create playlists.

Now you've got me thinking - I just assumed it was NZ$ being in geekzone store and all...but maybe not...

You can get around the certificate expired errors - just change the phones date back to the certificate period (say 6 months, might need a little experimenting). It'll let you install it then, and then it still works when you change the date forward again. It is well worthwhile hacking your handset though - check symbian-freak.com for detailed instructions on how and a bunch of handy freeware.

It's US$ but I am sure there was an option to show the prices in NZ$ after you login - the transactions will always be in US$ though as the store is provided by Mobihand.

thanks MF, will take a look when I get some more money.

you can turn off certificiate checking .

on my s60, it's under:

  • tools

  • settings

  • applications

  • app manager

here you can change the settings if you so desire without jailbreaking etc.
