This is for a Siemens AT&T SX56 with Pocket PC 2002. ActiveSync Version 3.8 (Build 5004)

Currently I am trying to get my Pocket PC Phone to connect to the internet when connected to my USB connection.

I am getting internet but only via IP address only (no DNS). I found this out by using AvantGo's server IP address (64.157.224.7) for it's configuration [was able to update AvabtGo's content] and then by installing vxUtil. vxUtil can ping with address's but not using names.

I have also went to \windows\welcome.exe, running it and doing a soft-restart.

My ActiveSync is set to "Internet" and when I go to File>>Connection Settings, Allow Network is checked. It has a Status: Network is Available.

I do not have any personal firewalls installed, WinXP SP2 firewall is disabled, and my anti-virus does not have any firewall tools.

I have tried Work Settings and Internet Settings on my PPC for "When needed, automatically connect to Work using these settings:, neither helps.

I think I have remembered to list all the information needed for this issue. I hope someone can help.

Thanks!

Never mind, I just fixed it.

I went to Start >>> Programs >>> Wireless Tools >>> Optimization Settings and unchecked "Use Optimization"

I did check under that Advanced setting and Optiomization was only checked for my Cell network. Not sure why this effects DNS on my USB connection but it does.

Been working on this for the better part of today. I think I read all the other posts in this forum about this subject [which is why I had so many detials listed of what I did].

Only then did I decided to post my question for help. Then I stumbled on the Wireless tool in Programs and changed the setting for the hell of it [figured it could not hurt]. figures...

Anycase, perhaps my information will help someone else and this post will not end up just wasting space in your database. ;)

Heck, now I have this neat network tool installed on my PPC (vxUtil). Never would have found it unless I had this issue!
