I purchased a Tungsten T3, and I have trouble finding a bluetooth mobile phone which is compatible because of the limited drivers available for T3. My questions are:

1) The list of drivers Palm provided are all for older
models(many are discontinued and not available anymore from my wireless phone company), and I want the newer phones with a colour screen. How come T3 just came out OCt, 2003, but has drivers for the older phone models? Will more drivers be available?

2) I now have the Motorola Timeport 270c, which can be bluetooth capable if I purchased an module addition, however, I don't see the driver for that for Tungsten T3. Will the Driver for TP260 or TP280 or TP280i be compatible?

4) I am interested in the following new phones, but cannot find the drivers for the T3. Will they be available?
SonyEricsson P800
Siemens SL55 or SL56

I really need the information on which phone I should get.

Thanks

I never used the Palm drivers, they seemed buggy - for instance using on a Ericsson T39m or Sony Ericsson T68i always caused problems when connecting. I used the Standard GSM driver and always worked fine.

Tested with Ericsson T39m, Sony Ericsson T68i, Sony Ericsson P800 and Nokia 3650.

Using a Sony-Ericsson T610 without any trouble via GPRS. Haven't got dialup connection working yet though.

I understand that you can use the T610 for GPRS access on the phone itself, right? If this is the case, have you tried from your Palm using just Generic GSM drivers?

I tried a dialup connection to my local ISP, but it didn't work. Appeared to dial the number, but disconnected immediately, with a modem error. Is it supposed to work?

It depends on the network. But if you have GPRS working on this phone, then it should have all type of data in your account. Of course it may not be the case.

Do you have a special need for this dial up? GSM dial up (HCSD) will give you 9.6kbps (or 14.4kbps depending on network) and will be billed by minute. GPRS will give you aroung 48kbps, and will be charged per traffic.

Unless your ISP only allows access to pop3 servers from its own network, or you have unlimited minutes, I'd would use GPRS.

Just jumping in here as I'm going to be using gprs with my T3 and Nokia 3650 soon...

Are there different settings for gprs? The reason I ask is that on a PPC and an HPC I use, I usually put in *99# to get gprs. I use the free gprs from T-Mobile, so I know secure sites are out. Now, I see something like *****99# (or something like that) for gprs--what are the differences?

******99# shouldn't be a valid GPRS number. GPRS numbers would be *99# and *99*1# or any other number instead of 1 - each will be one of the configured access in your mobile phone.

Hi,

So, what's the difference between the *99# and *99*1# numbers? Is one better than the other or it's just an extra choice to use?

The numbers will use different CID configured on your mobile phone. You can have multiple configurations on your phone, and *99# will use the default configuration, and *99*1# will the #1, and so on...
