First off, I wanted to thank this group, I read a lot of the posts on this topic and there is a lot of good info here.

My problem:

Service name: Bt->LAN
Local IP address: 0.0.0.0
Gateway address: 0.0.0.0
DNS addresses:

FYI:
Computer w/ DBT-120 and latest drivers:
-external static network connection: a.a.a.14 dns: a.a.a.21 gateway: a.a.a.1 configured for ICS with Bluetooth Network in text box.
-internal static network connection: 192.168.1.14 dns: a.a.a.21 gateway 192.168.1.1
-bt network connection:dynamic dns: a.a.a.21 (tried Query DNS)

Palm T3 software updates completed:
Network: Query DNS Query IP (tried DNS a.a.a.21, IP 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.15, etc)
Script: Send CR, Delay 1, Send CLIENT, Send CLIENTSERVER

I have read for about the last 3 hours on various sites about how to connect, each contains the same basic info. I have tried to statically assign the palm a free ip address on both my external and internal interfaces to no avail. I have tried assigning the bt network connection on the pc about every possible combination of free (internal/external) addresses without sucess! I only try to ping by IP address so I don't even get to a DNS issue yet. What gives? I can supply more detail, but most of it would just take time. Consider that I have read through your tutorial and double checked my settings, but suggest away, I am willing to try anything at this point.
I even borrowed a palm TT and tried it and had the results.
Thanks in advance.

You say bt network connection:dynamic dns: a.a.a.21 (tried Query DNS

The BT Network Connection must be 192.168.0.1 to ICS to work. You can enter the DNS addresses there if wanted, and leave gateway blank (that's how I use mine).

The screenshots seem ok, but here are my comments:

  • Enter the DNS addresses since you've checked the box Use the following...
  • Check if your firewall is blocking this communication (either the built in Windows XP firewall, or Zone Alarm, or any other).

Zone Alarm needs to be in Medium security. Symantec NIS blocks communications even if it's disabled. In this case you have to uncheck the option to start it with Windows.

If it works you might want to use the learning mode on your firewall, where it will ask for authorisation for each type of communication. You have to allow packets from 192.168.0.1 and from localhost (127.0.0.1).

Thanks for the ideas. I will try them when I return to work. I bet it has something to do with black ice. I allowed all traffic from 192.168.0.0 but I missed 127.0.0.0. I am also going to set everything up today at home and try it from here. I will let you know what I find out.

Thanks again. This forum has some of the quickest responses I have seen.

After about an hour this morning I found out my problem is associated with the way my external connection is configured, not black ice. I can route traffic through my internal network to the net, but also have a direct connect (confusing but necessary) I ended up bonding the BT to the internal network and disabling the external and everything works. If I had some sort of traceroute for the palm, I could probably figure it out, but all that I care is that it is working now. Thanks again for your help.

I might try bridging and see what I come up with, the important thing is that I know it now works and my palm doesn't have a corrupted IP stack or something.

    :)

I have never been able to get bridging working with my wife's Palm T3. If I bridge my BT and LAN cards together and then setup ICS on my ADSL, the bridge gets the old 192.168.0.1 fine. When I connect the Palm over BT, it gets an IP from the same range too, but it flat out refuses to resolve any addresses by DNS or IP.

If you have problems resolve IP addresses from the name, perhaps you could enter your ISP's DNS address in the proper fields in the network configuration on each network adapter on your computer.

Tried that, didn't seem to make any difference. Besides which, I have web sites on my home LAN which I need to resolve using the DNS server on my router machine.
