I have a 500MB plan with Telecom New Zealand, and before using Windows Phone 7 I had a Windows Mobile 6.5 device.

I don't have push email enabled, and only manually update it early in the morning and a couple of times a week in the evening when I am out.

I don't have my Facebook account loaded anymore because I don't really need all the contacts there, and most of my short updates go to Twitter.

I do have a Twitter client, which again is manually updated, and only when I am out.

Interestingly enough though I am always getting closer to the 500MB limit, more than ever before. I have the location update turned off, and all Marketplace actions are done over WiFi at home or when plugged to my PC.

With Windows Phone Mango I suspect I would need to actually bump the plan to the next level.

Is anyone else seeing this?

I apologise if this if off topic but  I haven't seen this referred to anywhere else. looking at the Telecom website the 500mb plan doesnot appear to be offered anymore. It appears to be now $30.00 for 750mb. I wonder if they are seeing increasing usage amounts by smart phone users.

Good stuff. I didn't know that. The problem is that their new plans don't have the automatic double option for the same price once you use your allowance...

What make/model is the phone? I think I've seen people complaining about HTC and LG apps using excessive data.

It seems very high compared to my android phone doing pretty much the same thing in 50-100mb a month (plus I have push mail turned on).

Might want to change some of these settings:

- Settings > Phone Update > Uncheck "Use my cellular data connection to check for updates"
- Settings > Feedback > Uncheck "Use my cellular data connection to send feedback."
- Settings > Applications > Pictures + Camera > Turn off automatic picture uploading

Haven't MS just been sued for their Win7 phones collecting and sending location data, even though the customer have opted out of that service? Makes me wonder what else is running in the background invisibly.

Thanks but those are all off, since day one.

It's the LG Optimus 7...

I have actually turned off the mobile data connection now and will see how it goes during the weekend.

Have you had any more issues with your data use since the above update? I'm guessing the setting used would nip it in the bud :)

I have abnormally high usage as well. I'm using all the same features as my old iPhone and I'm chewing 1.5x more data.

All of the above unchecked, email every hour for me, FB and Twitter manual.

I am a heavy user of Data with work exchange account configured and hotmail as push email setup. lots of facebook, tweeting and internet explorer usage. Have done 340MB/480MB monthly allowance on XT with 7 more days to go.

Do whatever you want to do man.

i am bumping between 100mb and 200mb per month on my htc trophy. i do have push email enabled, am running facebook and twitter clients, have a few 'live tiles' on the front screen. not sure how you're getting to 500mb, unless you're doing a lot of web surfing or browsing online maps?
