No comment on the phone switching to speaker mode on the Lumia 800?? it is really frustrating, I guess its a hardware issue with the Lumia, and not a WP7 issue?

I only saw it this weekend in the Nokia blog, no dates, but I assume soon - I was told the same the month before the local Lumia launch during the Nokia press meeting.

No scheduled date as yet.

In regards to the switching to speaker phone, can we first make sure the proximity sensor that is meant to lock the screen while the phone is held up to the ear is working properly.

Call a free call number - 777 on VF or *333 on TNZ and when the call is active place you finger over the top right of the screen, the screen should black out and be non responsive, remove it and the screen should light up again.

If this does as described then the sensor is working as it should be, if not then probably best to get it assessed by Nokia Care (if bought in NZ)

I see Nokia missed an important "let's enhance battery life" possibility here - pushing Microsoft to implement a "2G/3G" switch.

Currently in "Settings | Mobile Network" you can chose "Hghest connection speed" and the options are E (Edge) and 3G. It's not clear this limits data transmission only, or mobile network connections.

The best option would be something like "Mobile network mode" with options such as "2G", "2G only", "2G/3G" and "3G only".

These would allow people to for example use 3G only on a network like Telecom XT, which has no 2G option, and save some battery life. It would also allow people to lock in to 2G only when using a network with fringe 3G coverage, preventing the handset jumping from one to another.

Also, it would be great if the automatic use of WiFi was implemented - like the one on Meego and Symbian. That would reduce a lot of mobile data bills. As it is now with Windows Phone, it only uses WiFi if it's on and the handset is plugged in charging (of if you unlock the handset manually and keep it unlocked).

I've just accessed the engineer's menu and can confirm that selecting "3G" in the "Highest Connection Speed" setting effectively switches the handset to 3G. Selecting "E" switches the handset to automatic - so that's great news.

If the device is not plugged to mains, once the screen turns itself off then it reverts to mobile data only. When you turn it on again (well, "wake up") then it will connect to WiFi again.

Any data used while the screen is off will be mobile data. That's Windows Phone.

There is an update available for Nokia drive app in the marketplace. V2.0 has added full offline support for navigation without using any data, ETA is displayed, last destination, current speed you are travelling at and you can also set speed alerts in the settings menu.

If you do not get an update notification in the marketplace, then you can force the update notification by going to to the Nokia collection menu under the marketplace, open the Nokia Drive app in marketplace and at the bottom it should say 'update'

To switch Nokia drive to 100% offline mode, under settings in the Drive app, switch connection to 'offline'.

Also Nokia maps has been updated as well. download it from the marketplace as explained above. You can now share routes and destinations on your favorite social networks. You can also pin your favorite places to the start screen.

Thanks for the info. Very nice update from what you've described. I think that makes it almost perfect now. I liked that you could pin a map to the home screen so pinning a route is great news. Will help my navigationally challenged Mother in Law to set it up prior to the trip and then access it simply when needed. My Update is showing as soon as I go to the Marketplace so hopefully it's a similar experience for the masses.

Marketplace checks for updates once a day automatically, the other method of going into the app and updating from there forces Marketplace to check for updates for that app
