wonderstuff: FYI - I picked up a 6BG SDHC MicroSD for my N95 in London last week (Carphone Warehouse), and it works very nicely.

Yeah, I pretty certain there will be no compatibility problems with the SDHC format at all - all the way up to 32GB!

Oh, and BTW, Brudge - I've responded to your PM regards the headset. If you try a search you'll probably see lengthier commentary somewhere in this thread, I'm sure I fed back on my wonderful S805's here somewhere.

I suppose the extra ram will increase the response time and efficiency for all the phone's applications? Photo and video included?No lens cover is retarded though!! The black looks way cooler than the silver and plum ones tho. Know when it's released?

Soon from what I've heard. I don't like only having 8GB though, and the lens cover issue bothers me. If only they would release it with a microSC slot. . .

But in answer to your question: yes, I believe the UI is a little more snappy with the RAM increase.

You would need more than 8 gig? What would you use the phone for wanting more than 8 gig? Apparently the built in 8 gig drive took up less room than the sd card slot in order to accommodate for the larger battery so it doesnt run out so fast. I guess things have to be sacrificed. Same deal with the lens cover. Guess a case would be imperative to prevent lens damage if the 8g version has no protection. Still up in the air whether to get current n95 or wait for the black 8gig. Pros and cons for both. Hmmmm.. Cheers for the reply by the way

Perhaps get a current one and get a bigger sdhc card when they come out-6gb and above

My N95 is my mp3 player, games machine (GBA emulator - tons of ROMs, plenty of Quake maps and Doom WADS) and a portable media device - hungry storage uses! Not to mention I use mine for med school, so its full of text books etc which can be quite large.

Incidentally, I don't believe the lens cover needed to be sacrificed in order to use the larger battery, since current N95's can use the larger battery but need a crystal case to hold it in (in other words, a simple redesign of the rear casing would have sufficed). The 8GB drive is solid state, rather than a drive and had nothing whatsoever to do with the battery - the N95-3 (US model) has a microSD slot and also uses the larger battery. Too bad the N95-3 doesn't work on our 3G frequency. . .

I think Apple is likely to blame for the 8GB thing, since it automatically detracts from that advantage of the iPhone. Probably wouldn't be an issue if the 8GB cards were already available, but they aren't quite there yet. I think the average consumer (whoever that is) finds this more appealing - use it straight from the box - rather than needing to buy something else. Its really a shame for us that the average consumer is so ignorant! The truly weird thing is that they are releasing the N81 in both 8GB and MicroSD slot flavours. . .

I don't even think the mechanism to drive the lens cover is to blame for the removal of the lens cover, since my N95 will take the new battery. Its only the thickness, not the length or width, that requires it to be held in with a crystal case. They could have just redesigned the cover - like a third party manufacturer did in order to fit in a 1400mA battery in our current N95's. Shame that you shouldn't touch that one with a barge pole, lest it explode in your pocket as other non-Nokia batteries have done. Its happened a few times this year, causing a death in one case. Would really make you think about which pocket your phone lives in. . . ;]

I had an N95 for a couple of weeks...didn't like it at all, GPS hookup time far too long, cheap construction, etc etc. Have just picked up a new Blackberry Curve (8310)...far better experience, GPS hooks up almost instantly, Google Maps is fantastic, you can even switch to satellite view, very handy. Not too sure what all the fuss about the N95 was about really!

HAHA!! yep exploding pockets is not on my list of things I want from a phone. Will check that youtube video out. Awesome to know about the games compatibility. Thanks again for the info!!

Maybe if GPS is the only thing you're concerned with then its a better experience, but it sure lacks features. 2mp cam, no WLAN (huge deficit), no 3G, no 3D acceleration - whats the software support like and does it support SDHC cards?

Given the extra features, especially being the first with integrated GPS and with a 5mp camera and TV-quality video I don't think its hard to see what the fuss was about really. . .

Agreed, those features were impressive when they came out, and hey, even the TVC is cool. But lets be honest, in NZ...not too many WLAN spots around so we can discount WLAN being a compelling reason to but one...I've got a wireless network at home...but if I am at home I'm gonna be on the 15 or 17 inch Macbook...lets be honest, as good as the screen is on the N95, it aint 15 inches (let alone 17) nor does it have a QWERTY keyboard (the Curve does!).

Software support is great, it supports MDSD cards, I have a 1 Gig one in mine...came standard!

And 5MP camera on a mobile? Lets be honest! I've used them all...and if I'm going to a wedding...I'm not taking my mobile to photograph it! Cameras on mobiles are for PXT and email....not print and definitely not professional quality. It has nothing to do with the Megapixel myth....it has more to do with the quality of the lens and the fact that is a mobile not a camera...simple logic!

The browser on these are fantastic however! Very nice...

As for 3G speeds....not needed for the Curve, email is just as fast on GPRS...GPS maps a fine....so not really needed!

But "lets be honest" Madmax77:

1. I use my N95 to take pictures in my work and in my private life and it takes a very reasonable photos compared with ANY other phone's camera. And I am not always running around with a digital camera and a mobile phone in my pocket! I travelled home few months ago and I made some short videos about NZ and where I live and showed it to my friends. Just connected my phone to the tv and here you go. They were amazed and the videos and pictures were looking very nice on the telly.

2. I am using the WLAN at home and in the office. In the office I am using FRING on my N95 and I talk on Skype with people living abroad. At home I am using my company's email application to receive and send emails, meanwhile I use our home computer to browse the web, play games, etc. The email requires VPN connection so I can't play online game and use the email at the same time.

3. I like the open Symbian platform. Do you know that I can use my N95 as a webcam and connect to my PC via Bluetooth? Just visit my-symbian.com and browse their softwares, you'll see how many things you can do with this phone.

I dont want to convince you that the N95 is the best phone in the world, because people have different requirements: for example I used once a Nokia E61 with full qwerty keyboard and I loved it! For email and web browsing via wifi: it's just great! I would be the happiest man with a full qwerty keyboard phone having the same specs as the N95. But that's only me. And "let's be honest", these phones are made for the mass and not only for me. I like it though. And I like the Blackberry too. And the E61i. And the Apple iPhone. What else can I say?
