Madmax77:Agreed, those features were impressive when they came out, and hey, even the TVC is cool. But lets be honest, in NZ...not too many WLAN spots around so we can discount WLAN being a compelling reason to but one...
I have no idea where you live, but if you're outside of Auckland the public WLANs point may well be valid.
In Auckland however there are so many WLANs, with more appearing daily. Try: The CBD, every Starbucks, all the Dick Smith powerhouses, Esquires coffee, most McDonalds, the University campuses (where I use it the most), the entire Parnell shopping area, the shopping area of Botany (quite a large area with coverage from several providers, including free access in Botany Mall), a plethora of Cafe's and numerous open WLANs in residential areas.Madmax77:I've got a wireless network at home...but if I am at home I'm gonna be on the 15 or 17 inch Macbook...lets be honest, as good as the screen is on the N95, it aint 15 inches (let alone 17)
I'm afraid this sounds a little like ignorance; browsing isn't the only thing you can do with a WLAN. How about using your N95 as a VoIP phone? Streaming media to the TV-Out?
EDIT: Now you can game over WLAN too with the new release of Quake that has the Quakeworld client built-in! Yay!Madmax77:nor does it have a QWERTY keyboard (the Curve does!).
QWERTY is nice, for sure. Personally I'm sort of on the fence on QWERTY phones though. Then tend to ruin the form factor aesthetically, and I actually care about that, and when I add that to the fact that I type at 25-30 words a minute with T9 on the N95 (and thats with full capitalisation and punctuation) and I'm just not sure I actually need QWERTY.
What I really wish is that one of the manufacturers would produce a phone with an N95-like feature set, but with the form factor of the Helios Ocean. Now thats a QWERTY! Beautiful double-slider action and doesn't ruin the form factor.Madmax77:it supports MDSD cards, I have a 1 Gig one in mine...came standard!
MicroSD and MicroSDHC are different things, N95 and few other phones (only N76 and E90 to my knowledge, although non-Nokia manufacturers should start releasing compatible phones soon) support SDHC. N95 comes with a 1GB standard too though.
SDHC cards currently are up to 6GB, 8GB due before Christmas, and eventually up to 32GB. Thats a pretty huge advantage for the N95.Madmax77:And 5MP camera on a mobile? Lets be honest! I've used them all...and if I'm going to a wedding...I'm not taking my mobile to photograph it! Cameras on mobiles are for PXT and email....not print and definitely not professional quality. It has nothing to do with the Megapixel myth....it has more to do with the quality of the lens and the fact that is a mobile not a camera...simple logic!
C'mon now. The idea that camera phones are only for PXT and email is simply outdated, thats a school of thought thats been outdated since Ericson released their 3mp cybershot range of phones. At some point in the future I see camera phones completely replacing standalone units for everyone but professional photographers and amateur enthusiasts. I don't think that time is too far off to be honest.
The N95 takes pretty good shots, in daylight conditions its a pretty respectable replacement for a standalone Digital Camera - with the advantage of always being on your person. The other day I took some photos of my Fiance being tattooed at Illicit. While I was there I used their free WLAN to upload them to my Facebook - they're basically indistinguishable from a standalone digicam. Also, they're perfectly acceptable for printing to 12x8.Madmax77:As for 3G speeds....not needed for the Curve, email is just as fast on GPRS...GPS maps a fine....so not really needed! If thats all you need internet for then I'll absolutely grant you that point. I need to browse with my phone, and occasionally use it as a bluetooth modem or make video calls, so 3G is far better.
Finally, I have no idea what Blackberry software support is like, fantastic probably. Symbian really is good though, as Aloha suggests. Game emulator, webcam, p2p, media streaming, remote access and file sharing with your PC, control your N95 with a Wii controller - theres just so much you can do with Symbian. Really looking forward to the Universal IR remote program to arrive too! Its in beta at the moment and will be released pretty soon - checkout the youtube video made by one of the beta testers.
yepyep1: Hmm.. Will the n95 8gb come out on vodafone nz? Sometimes we seem to miss phones, also will the n95-3(the one with micro-sd) work with 3g on vodafone?
yepyep1:
What frequency do vodafone use? Whats WCDMA too isn't that what telecom use, or is that just cdma?
