The new firmware is V20.0.015 for me.
RM-159

It is a lot snappier after the update.  Viewing photos is a pleasure, clicking through the menus is a breeze.  So far so go!:)

I had an annoying "missing keystroke" issue after the last update.  This new firmware seems to have fixed it.  Sensational!

OMG, this firmware is great.

Camera app is now much, much faster, in addition to everything being a little snappier.

Startup time much faster (demand paging).

Sliding into landscape no longer starts the multimedia menu (thank god, that was annoying).

Search app is on active standby screen.

Podcasts added to Music Player app.

As already mentioned RAM is superb at around 30MB on fresh boot - meaning the phone can now multi-task. I was browsing on WiFi, listening to music and sending texts a little while ago - definitely not possible before the firmware upgrade.

Keypress bug is gone, again thank god.

Ngage Application is there.

Video ringtones now have native support.

. . . haven't yet checked to see whether it will remember user settings in the camera app, which is one of the few things I really want that isn't already included (OK, so the autorotate function would have been nice too, I guess I'll just have to use the RotateMe app after all).

Not sure what else is different, but so far I'm extremely stoked (not to mention that upgrading on the Euro firmware means I can turn off the camera shutter sound, and also get rid of the fugly font the APAC firmware installed).

I totally agree with the above.

After this firmware upgrade, my little teeny desire to get a N95 8GB is now gone.  N95 classic is now a classic!

I got mine in Singapore.  I didn't need to change product codes.

Man, sorry to say that Vodafone N95s will always take a little longer for updates to be ready.

Eeek, I would never buy a Vodafone branded phone eh.  Even with mine from Singapore, I can still use VLive without any problems.

Anyway... not sure what the product code is.  This is what I see when I check my firmware version:

v 20.0.015

Not sure if this a new feature or not, cant recall it happening on old firmware but now the gps can be accessed by more than one app, ie Sportstracker and MGMaps can run together.
If you close the camera app while the lens cover is still open, you can start the camera by a long-press of the shutter button.

Today while out on a stroll I.....

Ran Sportstracker to record my excercise
Ran MgMaps to see where I was walking
Listened to the radio (could have played mp3's)
Took some photos and one-click uploaded them to Flickr

All these apps ran at the same time.

Now it just needs RotateMe to arrive and I will be truely happy Laughing

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

I changed my product code to Euro-1 Plum (the codes can be found loads of places) in order to enable the firmware upgrade. Its scary, but the second time I've done it (first time was to remove Vodafone firmware as this is my second N95 after the screen died following trauma on my first PI one), well worth it.

EDIT: Codes and instructions can be found here

So did you get a refund from PI ? I also bought my n95 from PI and had it replaced. It took me 2 months to get it sorted and when the replaced me with another new one, its battery was loose. But i never went back cause they take so much time to get it fixed and  id already been without n95 for 2 long months.

Sorry, that wasn't very clear, when I said PI I meant Parallel Imported in the generic sense, not that it was from the store, I got my first one from a guy on Trademe in April. It took a skate off the roof of my car, afterwards the screen was dead. Fortunately my insurance covered it so I got a replacement in 3 days (happened on a Friday - tough weekend!), unfortunately it was a Voda-branded one, but fortunately I could get rid of the Voda-formware ;]

Your experience sounds awful! Especially the bit about being without your shiny N95 for 2 months! Ouch!!!!

Yeah, cool eh, seen videos for NokMote for a couple of weeks now - looks especially nice for gaming controls!

Likewise. I think the N95 classic is now a little better than the 8GB, heres why:

- many previous advantages of 8GB negated: classic now has demand paging, has new search app, camera speed the same, can
multitask due to improved RAM handling etc
- retains improvements over 8GB: has lens cover, will exceed 8GB storage relatively soon, slimmer form-factor
- keypress bug gone

The only advantages the 8GB really has now are:

- the increased screen size, which is nice, that extra 0.2 of an inch actually does make a noticeable difference
- increased battery capacity, but seriously, I think we've all habituated to the N95 classic now where this is concerned anyways
- better tactile multimedia keys, not huge, but an advantage nevertheless

Overall I really much prefer the N95 classic at this point in time - yay me!

Don't say N95 classic is better - it never will be. But it's goooooood.

There has been a firmware upgrade for the N95 8GB recently, and Nokia will do the same for that phone as did with the classic - improve the speed, increase the RAM, etc.

But the N95 8GB still has a big advantage - the better battery.

My N95 classic (and I love it) is just running out of power usually around 5.pm and that's pissing me off. I am a heavy user, voice conferencing, etc. And I dont want to muck around with a spare battery as I never had to do this with my previous phones.

I couldn't wait for this update so i unbranded my vodafone mobile (i got a large subsidy so thats why i got it from them).

A fantastic update, the ram is simply amazing now, i leave apps open with no worries about them closing in the background.

This is how the N95 should've been from day 1
