mattRSK: Stuff jumping on the bandwagon

http://www.stuff.co.nz/technology/gadgets/5490482/Shop-staff-bought-up-TouchPads-say-customers

I think it is fair that staff get to buy them.

This is what the staff at the store I went to said. Everyone seemed to understand and seemed to think it was fair (even though they were miffed of course they weren't getting one)

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!

I know if I was in that situation as a staff member i'd buy them.

Some people have unreasonably high expectations of stock level. It's a product that wasn't selling well at all, why would NL have enough stock to satisfy sale demand given they were struggling to sell them in the first place.

Yup, I don't see any problem with it, why should they have to miss out just because of their chosen workplace?

Yes they have a slight advantage but that is just a perk of working in retail.

I was down at Tory Street Noel Leeming at 8:55 and there was a queue of about 15 people or so... The doors opened and a sign read "Sold Out HP TouchPad" Everyone ran past and still accosted the sales staff heh. Poor buggers.

That being said, if there was stock, i'm sure they bought one or two themselves which makes me care about them a little less haha.

I just wanted one as some chaps are trying to develop Android for it and I thought I might see if I can have a go at it myself. Anyway I suspect certain peripherals might become hot commodities soon enough. I'm thinking about buying some myself irrespective of whether I get a TouchPad (Which isn't looking likely :( )

EDIT: Just saw the stuff link posted above. Fair call.

Good on the NL staff members who bought them - good buy.

Anyone who misses out (possibly me), well, cookies crumble and all that.

No one has done anything wrong here, and it was 'every man for himself' when they were at full price, and the same situation when they dropped.

The device has been on sale long enough that anyone who really wanted/needed one has one, and anyone who rants about not getting one cheap is just a whiner.

Gutted I missed out! I was at Noel Leeming Westgate, and was the 9th person in the queue. They had six.

This was meant to be a christmas gift for my hard to buy daughter, so if any Geekzoners have any excess stock, please PM me. I can pay a little more than the fire sale price, but not much more .

I should also point out that I spoke to Acquire, and the nice gentleman that answered the phone (Anthony) was awesome! Even though their stock was long gone, he was very polite and informative. With customer service like that, I'll definitely be using them for future purchases.

I pre signed up for an account so all of my details were already in their system, then selected bank deposit as payment (hopefully doesn't count me out) and was much faster to get the order through.

Still, that pretty low for Noel Lemming, and waste lot of people's time and petrol for nothing!

RexHavoc: We have hopefully secured 10 units based on the new pricing. Im not sure what this is yet or what models we will have allocated.

and gone. Just have to wait for the distributor to confirm pricing and allocation and the first 10 who emailed us will be given first option.

I don't think method of payment should count you out.
