Also you can purchase the cyan covers separately from the phone if you wish

So if you can exchange, get the black and then the cyan cover for it, not the same but the cover is super snug so you can't tell that it has another cover underneath.

Consumer Guarantee's Act should come into play here. Has to be fit for purpose. And if they knew it was Vodafone and sold you an incompatible phone then it's not fit for purpose.

He said he bought it because of the colour. Who knows if the sales person advised it was not a Vodafone one? For all purposes the device is fit for purpose. The customer bought the wrong one based on personal preference.

This comes into "change of mind" in my view. I hope he can swap for one that's actually suitable but I'd say the store would do it only as a goodwill gesture.

My wife ended up getting a Lumia 800, so a chance to have a play.

Quite a heavy phone compared to her previous HTC Mozart - I was quite surprised by this. Personally I'm not sold on the cyan polycarbonate body look and feel - while clearly well machined and finished, the colouring only appears attractively vivid under bright lighting, otherwise it's dull and even 'muddy' under some light conditions. Overall the case lacks the finish finesse apparent in the likes of the iPhone 4/4S and the HTC Titan or Mozart.

The extra clock speed compared to the Mozart is noticeable in both the metro UI and apps. Things are just that bit more fluid. Battery charging time is however slow compared to the Mozart (the charger unit is quite tiny). I've not experimented to see if a larger third party charger will improve on this.

The AMOLED display is interesting - certainly the contrast is high and the colours can 'pop' but photos sometimes appear oversaturated and garish to my eyes. The compromised pen-tile matrix is almost unnoticeable on a screen this size but there are times when colour fringing is apparent. The BIG plus is excellent brightness which is very usable in even direct sunlight (compared to the HTC Mozart which washes out to the point of being useless). Conversely the Nokia's automatic brightness setting produces a disappointing under-bright display in normal indoor and low light environments, negating it's day-to-day appeal somewhat. The HTC Mozart and Titan have much better balanced automatic low light responses.

My wife was surprised that the Nokia had the same interface as her HTC Mozart. She expected a different brand would be 'different', and therein lies the rub for Windows Phone OEM's - no customisation of the interface which creates a kind of de-facto same-old 'blandness'. Perhaps Microsoft will relent on this for Apollo and onwards. In the time I've had a play, the Nokia apps look good and some appear very good, but I doubt this alone is going to be enough to distinguish OEM brands at the sharp end of the sales process.

Overall a bit of a disappointment. I'm going to pass on this model as well as the soon to be released Lumia 900 and see what becomes available later in the year when Apollo is released.

actually it isnt a change of mind. when my wife bought it she initially said to the rep she would try her sim in a telecom version first before she bought it but he was quiet confident it was fine and even put it down in writing on his card along with the invoice that it will work without a trouble. As far as I am concerned if this doesnt work I will happily swap it to the blck voda one as performance is more important than colour in this case. at the end of the day we need a phone.

Have you tried using the Network Setup application to make sure the APN's are changed on the handset?

All you'll need to do is start the application, make sure Vodafone NZ is selected and you should be done.

As others have pointed out, you'll get very limited 3G coverage, but you'll still have 2G elsewhere on Vodafone

from what I've experienced that app starts up when it detects a new carriers SIM inserted into the phone and then changes your APN for you etc

i took the phone to a telecom store too. they tried their sim and it had the same problem so it seems like its this particular phone which is a problem.

An update on the above query. I took the phone back to where it was bought. The store has happily taken back the phone and given me a refund. The guy I dealt with was Mohammad from Bond and Bond Albany and he is absolutely brilliant and an honest guy.

I bought the N8 a couple of weeks ago and have been having serious issues with battery life.

I also had issues using accessing marketplace and the web, but these are now resolved.

As for the battery issue, I followed all the discussion boards and updated the phone to its latest firmware. Instead of fixing it, the battery now lasts 50% less of what it did before.... Just to test it, I charged it fully last night, turned flight mode on, ensured all the auto retrieval options were all turned off, etc.... This morning when I checked it, there was less than 50% of the battery life available......

Does anyone have any ideas?

As for the marketplace and web issues, neither the Vodafone or Nokia teams recognised any of the error code numbers that were showing up. I did some testing myself and figured out that if I reset the phone, Marketplace and web worked absolutely fine. If I then opened the Network Setup app, it went and hunted the settings for VodafoneNZ and suddenly marketplace and web weren't working any more, even if added the correct APN in the phone settings.

The tell seemed to be that after i run the app and went to the web, the home page was set to live.vodafone.com When I told this to VFNZ, they told me it seems the Network Setup app is collecting the old VFNZ information and overruling any manual APN you type in the settings.

So, if you still have issues accessing marketplace and the web, I suggest resetting your phone, stay clear of the Network Setup App (I even uninstalled it) and then try accessing these apps.
