Does anyone have their alarms go off when the phone is switched off? Worked fine before upgrade but now when the alarm goes off, the phone powers on and the whole screen is just lit up. Only way to recover is to pull the battery out. Might just re-flash tonight.

Aloha: Don't say N95 classic is better - it never will be. But it's goooooood.

There has been a firmware upgrade for the N95 8GB recently, and Nokia will do the same for that phone as did with the classic - improve the speed, increase the RAM, etc.

But the N95 8GB still has a big advantage - the better battery.

My N95 classic (and I love it) is just running out of power usually around 5.pm and that's pissing me off. I am a heavy user, voice conferencing, etc. And I dont want to muck around with a spare battery as I never had to do this with my previous phones.

Doesnt the 8gig have more ram than the classic too? I have an 8gig just bought it its gorgeous to behold. Just wonderin how I can get the latest firmware upgrade as you call it? Is it risky to upgrade firmware? I'm a n00b to this kind of stuff sorry!! Also from the research i did before purchasing the 8gig I found the classic can fit the bl 6f battery if you buy a jewel case to accomodate it. Might solve your problem :-)

Why shouldn't I say that? For me I think it is better.

I really like having a lens cover, and now that we too can multi-task theres no advantage there for the 8GB (in answer to another post the 8GB has more RAM, yes, but at this point in time there isn't anything that uses it all so more RAM is of course better BUT at the moment that doesn't mean a lot in practical terms - for example if you had a computer for home use with 100GB RAM and it did everything a home user could want and then some, a computer with 200GB RAM is better of course, but not in any useful sense to the user apart from future proofing).

The battery thing for me is neither here nor there, I have multiple spare batteries with me so I've completely adapted to the N95 Classics poor battery, what is more important to me is storage. So while the 8GB is indeed a better phone, for me, at this point in time, the classic is better.

This statement seems somewhat daft to me? Sure you've never had spare batteries with other phones, neither have I, but then I've never owned an N95 classic before either and the reality is for us heavy users a spare battery is a must really (or a proporta charger or similar device, some kind of power solution at any rate). I'm not trying to get at you, but the fact that you never had to before isn't a reason not to here when the reality is that it sounds like you probably need to.

The 8GB is indeed a beauty!

To get the firmware upgrade (I think the new V11. is the most recent for the N95 8GB) you'll need the Nokia software updater (on the net somewhere, can't remember which Nokia site I got it from). Just a small note that the firmware may not yet be available for your N95 8GB's product code, if thats the case you'll just have to wait a little while for it to become available or change your product code (I made a post in the previous page that links to a page explaining how to do this, you'll have to dig up your own product codes though, the ones on that page are for the classic).

Ooops I did it! I debranded my VFN95 to Euro1 Plum and then updated the firmware.

It was a bit scary during the firmware update as my pc lost the connection with the phone and I thought "Oh gosh now I bricked my phone" but then I just followed the on-screen intructions and the updater program fixed it. Great stuff!

I signed it myself,got a certificate from symbiansigned.com and then signed the sis file.

If you have a sis file that needs signing and can't get an account at Symbian signed you could send it me and I'll sign it for you (won't be able to for more than a week though, going to be in Amsterdam for the Nokiaworld conference).
