Perhaps I should just pay the $1200+GST at etown and get one local, unless anyone got a better idea?

johnr:
bigal_nz: Will a N95 8Gb brought in the US work here?

Any issues with the PAL/NTSC for the TV side of things?

Cheers

-Al

Will work on 2G not 3G Vodafone NZ use UMTS2100 (3G)

Before purchase check that it works on 900/1800 GSM and 2100 UMTS

I think Johnr is incorrect.

An N95 8GB purchased in the States will work perfectly well on NZ 3G as there is no N95 8GB model that runs on the US frequencies - while it may be purchased from the US, it is the European model nevertheless.

Yeah according to the wikipedia article on the N95, there are three flavours:

N95 (v1)
N95 8gb (v2)
N95-3 (v3) North American Market Version

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_N95

I am looking at buying this one from :

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3496459&CatId=1809

So this will definitly work? 3.5G etc?

Cheers

According to GSMarena the 8GB runs on the exact same frequencies as the N95-1, so I would think that it'll work perfectly.

Would the N95 battery likely develop a memory?
When in the car and using GPS I would plug in the car charger to avoid running the battery flat, have noticed this morning with only using the media player for approx 20 mins (fm radio) the battery has gone from totally full (charged over night) to so dead now that I can't even turn it on for a second. I normally keep the phone in 3g mode but have discovered I can get a little more life out of it by keeping it locked to GSM only.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Batteries are not meant to 'memory-line' any more, but it could be the case. Whats more likely is that you have experienced a bug - there are reports from other users of their phone becoming hot and discharging a full battery in less than half an hour - sounds like what you've had here. Try searching some other forums to see if there is a specific reason/fix for this problem.
