Just read around here about people buying phones from Trade Me that work only on 2degrees - because Vodafone and Telecom share their list of blocked IMEIs. If you see any handset with a note "for 2degrees only" it's most likely stolen and blocked in other networks.

Also some bring imported phones, sometimes with no compatible power charger plugs, or different languages, etc.

For smartphones I would just walk to a store.

I'm sure Mobicity are fine. They have 12 month warranty, which you wont get from TradeMe or a lot of parallel importers

Mine is a Telecom branded one but works with my 2degrees SIM. (btw- these phones take a micro sim)

The phone is great. Came from IOS and loving WP7. Was showing off on the weekend how I can send a text while driving without even touching the phone :) Just found out I can use the Nokia 'Play To' app to play from my phone to my WDTV Live.

It sounds like people who have WP7 phones really love them.

So let me get this straight.... Telecom are the only NZ telco who sell the 710. If I wanted to use one on Vodafone/2Degrees, I'd have to buy an unlocked one and get a MicroSIM?

There are 2 versions of this model globally. The telecom version is quad band even though they don't advertise all the bands so it works on all NZ networks. The parallel importers in NZ seem to stock the RM-803 model which is VF/2D compatible only.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Litespeed: Got myself a Lumia 800 (XT model) on Friday and it runs fine on Vodafone.

It will in major cities since it's running on 3G/UMTS 2100MHz which XT version of Lumia 800 supports. In rural areas it will/should have no signal.

Do whatever you want to do man.

It probably runs fine wherever Vodafone has 2100 MHz 3G and their 2G network. But it won't work where Vodafone has 900 MHz 3G only.

Ok, after a week with the Lumia 800, I've found a few issues which have me wondering if I should return it.

1. Photos all have a blue/green tinge to them. I gather the camera used to be great in earlier firmwares, but they have since mucked it up.

2. The AMOLED screen itself might have nice contrast and deep blacks, but turn it anything off dead centre and it turns green.

3. The compass doesn't work in the southern hemisphere which is an issue because I like to use it for bike rides and geocaching.

Check the images on your computer first. Your second point makes it sounds like your screen causes this. The image preview always go green just before it saves, but that doesn't mean they always turn out like that. The camera also has that pink blotch in the middle during preview and it compensates somewhat for that as well when it saves. The camera is not the best around, but I've had a year's worth of good snaps off it.

Looking at my screen, I see the whites go very slightly green when viewed off centre. However I've never seen a screen that didn't change tint, or contrast, or colour off-centre so it seems pretty normal. It definitely has much more contrast, brighter colours and wider viewing angles than the 920, which looks washed out in comparison... yet the reviewers all complain about the 800 and love the 920.. go figure. They both look good on their own in any case.

The compass doesn't work and I'm the guy who has had the video on YouTube, plus tickets in with Nokia about it for the past year. Of course, the very same day I get a Lumia 920, I find an app in the app store that fixes the issue on the 800. It's called compass fixer I think.
