michaelmurfy: I see nobody has said Windows Phone? This doesn't solve the whole "physical keyboard" thing but I find the operating system great for what the OP has described.

Apart from Paulthagerous, Kiwinz, Freatism, and Paulmilbank, no one mentioned Winphone. Pub lunch :)

mattwnz: Maybe you need to specify what android devices you have used. You get what you pay for, so sounds like you have been using older or lower spec ones. I like others haven't had major problem with crashing. iphone apps also crash, but both iOS and the android OS are pretty reliable. Maybe look at the windows phone offerings.

Whoops, fail - I must admit I skim read it and it's still the morning for me ;)
what device are you using now OP?
markwolk:what device are you using now OP?
I admit: cheap unbranded M2 phone. I had also used various Archos devices and an unbranded tablet.
Assuming my frustration with Android is due to poor hardware, there is still the issue of the absence of a physical keyboard. That is why I was leaning towards Blackberry.

Feiteng M2 Android, 1Ghz single processor with 256MB RAM!!!
That's like complaining why 1982 mini can't overtake like a 2010 Audi!

That does make sense based on a lot of our experiences.
Is there any chance you can borrow a nice Android from someone? Because I often hear people say 'I really want a physical keyboard', but after a few weeks with a good droid it's all forgotten about. And you have to sacrifice screen size or weight to have one.
Have you had a bit of a play with a BB10 running device? The people I know that have used one really don't like the software.
