nathan: HERE Drive+
HERE Maps
Nokia Pro Cam

The HERE maps stuff is available on other WP devices in a few other countries but not NZ

HERE maps was out and available for the NZ HTC 8S about a week before my wife 'threw' hers on the ground and smashed it to pieces... accidentally of course!  Didnt see the HERE drive app then though.

I have amber installed, have had it a while.

The issues I've had are annoying, but I suspect all Windows Phones have issues (hell, my iPhone had some bloody annoying quirks), I've just accepted that I need to reboot the phone more often than I did on the iPhone.

I've done nothing that will prevent the issues recurring. But the issues weren't critical a reboot and or a charge and it was back to normal.

Maybe I have been really lucky with my 920. Had mine since December last year and only had a battery drain once. Like it was in my pocket one night at about 70% battery, woke up and it was completely drained. Other than that no issues at all. Still love this phone!

I have the 2degrees Ativ S, when I got it for about $500 I thought it represented quite good value for money, the 920s were far more expensive, since however they are now on par I would have to say in terms of support the Nokia's are going to be far better, for instance the 2degrees Ativ S didn't get gdr1 update at all it was skipped till gdr2 and the telecom ativ s got the gdr1 update but now seems to slow getting the gdr2 sounds like it might be skipped until gdr3. Where as the Nokia's are consistently getting the updates this is probably due to higher numbers etc, also with the Nokia's you get cool features like glance which is only available on the Nokia's, great feature for phones without a notification light. 920 Has a better camera however it is bulkier and heavier, you get used to the extra weight and bulk, I had a wp7 dell venue pro. The 925 would be my ultimate because it is slim and light and has a great camera great software however is still pretty pricey at the moment. The ativ s is a good phone slim light and great screen, but lacks in support and good manufacturer apps. With the 920 you get here drive, which has a value of $54 on the windows store if you want to buy it for the ativ s, and without it wp lacks a free turn by turn navigation app, and other alternatives are around $20. So for the 400 and something dollars from Harvey Norman is a good price imo

Interesting. I have read elsewhere that the Nokia apps are preferable. Also, read that a couple of Nokia apps actually work on the Ativ S.

Which Nokia apps in particular do you think are deal breakers?

Here Drive+ being the biggest for me.  Here Maps that you can download with the Samsung is no where as good. Nokia does have a few apps that they don't restrict who can download them (Battery Pro+ is one)

Appreciate the replies gentlemen.

I've decided to wait. The Lumia 1520 is apparently going to be announced this month (along with everything else it seems), and I'm guessing the subsequent price free fall will affect the 1020 in due course.

yeah fair enough looks like the 925 has dropped significantly on www.expansys.co.nz now around $515nzd+ import duty, pretty sharp deal
